In addition to affecting the child’s physical health, bullying can cause learning struggles and delays in development. The academic impact on the child experiencing bullying can be overwhelming. Often, one of the first indicators that a child may be experiencing bullying is a sudden decline in grades or poor academic performance. According to data collected by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, about 30% of all children studying in middle and high school were at least once in a semester bullied, or acted as bullies themselves in the U.S. (National Conference of State Legislations). The methods of bullying may differ depending on a social and gender group (thus, boys usually choose more direct forms, such as physical abuse, whereas girls prefer to spread gossip and act in other non-violent ways), but they all have at least one common effect: increasing the social isolation of a victim. At the same time, when asked about the reasons standing behind their inappropriate attitude towards victims, bullies have little or no reasonable explanations.

At the same time, psychologists have distinguished several psychological traits that are shared by the majority of bullies, regardless of the country they reside in. Bullies most often possess either a manipulative and reserved, or an expressive and active type of personality ; they are concerned about their own interests, finding it difficult to see circumstances from the perspective of other people surrounding them; they manifest a desire to gain power over others, and use force, abuse, or manipulation to get what they want from others (Sacramento County Sheriff). At the same time, bullies are considered to feel psychological pain within themselves, probably caused by the shortcomings of their own lives.

However, the latter does not excuse the damage dealt to victims. According to recent research, regular headaches, stomachaches, panic attacks and periods of increased anxiety, eating and sleeping disorders, and most disturbing, depression, are among the typical health issues that bullied students experience. However, surprisingly, students who act in an abusive and insulting manner are exposed to these symptoms as well (Huffington Post). In addition, these symptoms usually manifest in clusters: one symptom is often accompanied by several others, which gives psychologists preconditions to refer to these symptoms as a sort of medical syndrome, caused by (or connected to) bullying.

Parents who suspect their children have become victims of school bullying are usually recommended to pay closer attention to them. They should encourage children to talk about school life and listen to them carefully; treat children’s complaints seriously, as they may hide much more serious problems; monitor children’s physical (bruises, torn clothes) and psychological (apathy, sadness) conditions. Caring parents should contact school organizations when they suspect their children have been bullied to ensure they are better protected at school. At the same time, it is useful to teach children some self-protection skills, simultaneously ensuring them in the superiority of the peaceful way of resolving conflicts, and in the high value of kindness and an appropriate attitude (Sacramento County Sheriff).

Bullying is a serious problem in schools around the entire world. In the United States alone, about 30% of middle and high school students confessed to being bullied or acting like bullies themselves. Bullying can cause serious psychological and physical problems both in the victim and in the aggressor; some scientists believe these problems can be referred to as a specific syndrome. What is a Bullying Essay

For example, students choose to write about types of bullying, say about why teachers should be prepared for students’ harassment at school, or analyze some bullying situations in certain schools. 

As we live in the digital era, the cyberbullying theme is becoming popular. And a field of topics on bullying is broadening. For instance, you can compare traditional bullying and cyberbullying. 

How to Write a Bullying Essay

Such a type of academic paper consists of four parts:

• Introduction.
• Thesis statement.
• Conclusion.

1. Bullying Essay Introduction

• Read articles on the Internet. But be able to weed out fake information and anti-scientific materials;
• Read articles in books. Go to your institution library and spend hours there searching for proof for your piece of work. 

Keep in mind that statistics can confirm your thesis. So don’t think up your evidence. 

Don’t Forget About Transition Words and Sentences

Each paragraph should be connected with the other. Therefore, don’t forget to write transition words and phrases. They help your reader switch between one thought and another and eventually tie them up. Transition words are:

• accordingly;
• thanks to that;
• in that way;
• hence, etc.

Likewise, don’t forget about for example, for instance, and e. g. After transitioning function, they show the depth of your understanding of the topic of your academic paper. Therefore, use them to avoid empty abstractions.

Make Your Essay Polemical

If you want, you can add polemical notes to your piece of work. It’s okay if you can prove your point of view, but what if you show a fact that crosses all your proofs out? By doing so, you’ll shock your readers because you:

• shed light on new aspects of your issue;
• show that your proof can be refuted;
• show that you don’t think that your point of view is only true. 

Such a trick helps you stand your work out from others.

4. Bullying Essay Conclusion

The main purpose of the conclusion is to help your readers tie up your evidence, especially when you write an argumentative essay because such a type of paper is the same as research. In an argumentative essay, you should do your study and operate on statistics while writing your paper. The fact is that articles and researchers will underpin such a type of essay. 

It’s good if you suggest the scenario when the main essay problem is solved. Or you should direct your readers’ thoughts in searching for ways to solve this problem by suggesting your own way. 

Conclusion for a Polemical Essay

If you’ve written a paper that gives controversial examples, your piece of work should have an appropriate conclusion. You should say that your problem may have different ways of solving, or it can be blunt. For example:

The only way we can stop cyberbullying is to forget about social media. But in the era of high tech, it’s impossible because most people don’t imagine their life without scrolling news feeds, posting photos, and writing posts. 

As you see, the above paragraph consists of a so-called common phrase that we’ve recommended you avoid:

But such an expression doesn’t look like something commonplace because it explains your opinion. Therefore, even a common phrase can be OK if you use it correctly. 

Bullying Essay Outline

According to Rigby (64), bullying experiences can cost the lives of the victims if not prevented in time. In New York, it is reported that a young immigrant killed herself due to excessive bullying. This researcher argues that it is high time for the issue of bullying in schools to be addressed. The notion that bullying is a rite of passage should be eliminated. Another cause of bullying in schools emanates from the family’s social status. A child from a humble background will always have some pressurizing needs that are not met. This child will always want to express this frustration to fellow learners, especially those from stable families, by bullying them.

The effects of bullying, as mentioned above, can be very traumatizing. Victims of bullying may opt to drop out of school because of the trauma they experience. Others may develop irresponsible behavior that involves missing classes on most occasions. School irregularities among the learners result in poor performance. Bullying leads to stress among the victims. This, in turn, results in poor communication with these children. McGrath (44) argues that, in some cases, excessive bullying can lead to victims committing suicide to escape from painful experiences and memories.

Some of the effects are short-term, but if not well addressed, they can result in serious complications. The victims may have bed-wetting problems, unexplained worries, and digestive problems because of the fear instilled in them. Some victims with the intention of hitting back may develop very destructive behavior. Other victims may end up engaging in drug abuse to make them forget their painful experiences. Bullying affects the normal development of victims and makes them have low self-esteem (Dupper 62). 

Mitigating bullying in schools is not a one-person battle. Since it is a global issue, it calls for a collaborative and participatory approach to addressing the problem. Teachers, parents, and policymakers have a significant role in curbing this bad behavior in schools. Teachers spend much of their time with the learners and, therefore, can easily control their behavior while in school. Bullying is a subcategory of aggressive behavior characterized by the following three criteria: (1) hostile intent, (2) imbalance of power, and (3) repetition over a period of time. Bullying is the activity of repeated, aggressive behavior intended to hurt another individual, physically, mentally, or emotionally.

Bullying has been classified into different types. These can be in the form of nonverbal, verbal, or physical behavior. Bullying has also been shown to cause maladjustment in young children, and targets of bullying who were also bullies themselves exhibit even greater social difficulties. A mental health report also found that bullying was linked to eating disorders, anxiety, body dysmorphia and other negative psychological effects, or even suicide.

In the US, 1 in 5 students ages 12-18 has been bullied during the school year. Approximately 160,000 teens have skipped school because of bullying. More than half of bullying situations (57%) stop when a peer intervenes on behalf of the student being bullied. 6th grade students experience the most bullying (31%). The most commonly reported type of bullying is verbal harassment (79%), followed by social harassment (50%), physical bullying (29%), and cyberbullying (25%).
