I always thank God that he sent Rahul into my life as my best friend, and I also wish that everyone has a friend like Rahul. Rahul and I met on the first day of school after the summer vacation when we were studying in the 5th standard.

I also remember an incident when our class teacher asked him about his previous school and the place from where he came. He is a good speaker, and he gave an interesting answer to everyone in his introduction in class.

He is good at studies and also a good athlete. He loves running and singing too, and his handwriting is also very neat and clean. I feel happy to become his friend, and he also loves my company, and we spend most of our time together.

My Best Friend Essay 200 Words

I have had a lot of friends since childhood, but Raghav is one of the kindest and most trustworthy friends for me. I must say that Rohan has been my best friend since childhood. He is a very good person and a true friend because he has a good manner that he never lies to anyone, and hates people who lie to him. He is a kind boy and also a sincere student. We both live in the same building, and our apartments are also in front of each other.

My parents also met my friend in the school at the parents-teachers meeting, and they also like Raghav and his sincerity. We both have been in the same class from the 3rd standard until now. We are in the 10th standard now, and we both help each other in the preparation for Board exams, which will be held in the month of March.

He always invites me to his house to play video games with him. Every Sunday, we both enjoy playing video games with popcorn and juice together. Sometimes, our school teachers also wonder about our true friendship and the strong bond between us. He has a set of badminton rackets and a shuttle, and we also play together in the evening near our building. We both love each other’s company.

My Best Friend Essay 300 Words

Everyone has at least a single friend who is more than just a friend to them. Getting a friend is common, but getting a true friend is very rare and a bit special. It is like a big achievement for people to get a trustworthy and lifelong best friend. I also had a best friend in my life too since childhood. His name is Ganaraj, and his mother is Telugu. We are neighbors too and also classmates. We always sit together in school and also spend most of the time together.

He is a very talented person and always supports me in my studies. We both like mathematics, and also we love to solve maths numerical problems. I like to play games, and we both always play games together and participate in the sports that are held in school. Our favorite sport is Cricket, and we both are good all-rounders on our school cricket team. Our class teacher always suggests and supports us to play cricket even better and also helps in education to achieve success in life.

He is very valuable to me, and I always value his friendship as I value my parents. He is like my family, as a brother from another mother. Whenever I need his help and support, my best friend is there for me to hold me. We both live in the precious moment and create memories that will stay with me forever. Our friendship is a kind of beautiful relationship, and I hope any kind will never break these mistakes. Every Sunday, we go together to a playground near our locality, and we spend most of our time there. My parents also like Ganaraj to be my friend. Everyone is happy with our friendship and has a strong bond that never goes down in any situation.

My Best Friend Essay 500 Words

My best friend’s name is Siddhart Jadhav. We have been friends since class 7th A in Alfred Nobel High School. We both studied in the same school in childhood but not in the same class as our sections are different. Later that time, all the students from all the sections are sorted according to the previous academics’ percentages and grades and separated into four different sections. Due to this separation, I met Siddhart in the 7th A, and we became friends at that time. Later, time goes by, and our friendship bond becomes stronger, and we become best friends with each other and spend most of our time together in school, tuition, and extra classes. We also sit on the same bench in the classroom.

Our likes and dislikes are also common, and we also love to dance and sing. In every annual gathering and other function that is held in our school, we both participate and give our best performances. We never wanted to win the competitions, our intention was to enjoy the gathering. Some of our school teachers don’t like our togetherness and friendship, but some of them loved and always blessed our strong bonded friendship to stay longer and longer. Siddharth and I always talked in the running classroom, and most of the time, our teacher also punished both of us by standing outside the classroom. We always tried to irritate the lecturer in the chemistry lectures by asking tons of doubts and questions. We eat tiffin boxes sitting on the last benches.

Apart from this naughtiness, Siddharth is very punctual, and he is never late for coming to school and attending classes. He always completes his homework at a given time and being with him, I also start studying very well and completing my homework on time. He keeps his books and copies very clean. His writing is very nice and encourages me to write cleanly and clearly for better understanding. My parents also compliment my friend that being with him, I also become responsible and a good student.

Siddharth and I are both excellent football players and athletes. When we both start playing the football game, the opponent team never wins. Our sports teacher always motivates us and tells us that we will become good football players one day. My parents also know Siddharth very much, and they like his pleasant behavior. Feel free when Siddharth and I stay together, whether for playing games, video games, study, or for going out to have fun with other classmates. Siddharth is my best friend, my first friend. He is the one who offers me help in my studies when I need it, supports me and always shows love to me, defends me, and stands by my side in any situation no matter what.

In academics, my best friend, Siddharth, is chosen to be awarded the best student of the year in the 10th class. He is one of the brilliant students of our school and also won many of the competitions that were held in school. He is like a well-wisher, and I always enjoyed his company. He, too, feels secure and relieved by spending time with me as well. He is like a problem-solving friend to me. I never wanted to lose him in my life.

Essay on my best friend

Our Friendship

Our friendship started when my best friend came in as a new admission to our class. Both of us were hesitant to talk to each other at first, but gradually we developed a bond. I remember the first time my best friend tried to talk to me; I rolled my eyes because I thought there was no use and we wouldn’t hit it off. However, to my surprise, we became best friends by the end of the session year.

We learned so many things about each other and found out that our taste in music and fashion was so similar. Since then, there was no stopping us. We spent all our time together and our friendship became the talk of the class. We used to help each other out in studies and visited each other’s homes as well. We made sure to have lunch together on Sundays. We also used to watch movies and cartoons together.

On our summer break, we even went to summer camp together and made a lot of memories. Once during the summer holidays, she also accompanied me to my maternal grandparents’ home. We had a fabulous time there. Moreover, we even invented our own handshake which only both of us knew. Through this bond, I learned that family doesn’t end with blood because my best friend was no less than my family. Friendship is one relationship that you choose, unlike all other relationships.

Qualities of My Best Friend

I feel one of the main reasons why I formed such a bond with my best friend was because of the qualities she possesses. Her courage always inspired me to raise my voice against injustice as she always stood up to her bullies. She is also one of the smartest minds in class who doesn’t only excel academically but also in life. I have never seen a dancer as good as my best friend, the accolades she has won are proof of her talent.

Above all, I feel the quality that appeals to me the most is her compassion . Whether it’s towards humans or animals, she always keeps the same approach. For instance, there was an injured stray dog that was wailing in pain, my best friend did not only get him treated but she also adopted him.

Similarly, she saw a poor old woman on the streets one day and she only had money for her lunch. My best friend did not hesitate once before giving all of it to the poor lady. That incident made me respect her even more and inspired me to help the underprivileged more often.

A.1 It is important for everyone to have a best friend as they are our well-wishers with whom one can share everything. How To Write a My Best Friend Essay

' data-src=

Definition: What Is a My Best Friend Essay?

Write about what you know is sage advice often given to fledgling writers. And what do many of our young students know more about than their trusty sidekick, who is a constant presence through thick and thin?

A My Best Friend Essay is precisely what it sounds like; an essay the student writes that is focused on their closest pal’s endearing attributes (and otherwise).

However, the My Best Friend Essay is more than just a chance for students to wax lyrical about their BFFs. It is an authentic opportunity for students to hone their composition skills and exercise their creative flair.

All this while talking about one of their best mate – not bad!

STRUCTURING a My Best Friend Essay

This is an essay. It says so right there in the title! Just how complex the structure of a student’s essay is will depend on essential factors such as age and ability. However, the 5-paragraph essay structure is a perfect framework for this type of composition.

One of the most beautiful aspects of the 5-paragraph essay is that it is easily modified to differentiate between lower or higher ability students by simply adjusting the number of paragraphs. The essay will still contain the same essential elements of an introduction, a body, and a conclusion, regardless of how long it is.

The 5-paragraph (or hamburger) essay is a craft in itself and much too broad a topic to go into at length. Check out our complete guide here if you want more detail on this handy essay template.

Briefly though, in essence, the 5-paragraph essay comprises three parts:

  • The Introduction : The opening paragraph will orient the reader to the topic of the essay, in this case, by introducing the show’s star, the best friend .
  • The Body : In the traditional 5-paragraph essay, this makes up three of the five paragraphs. In this type of essay, the student will use these paragraphs to flesh out the main reasons they value their friend, or (at a more advanced level) they will tell a story about them that illustrates why they are the student’s best friend.
  • The Conclusion : In the conclusion, the student can sum up why their friend holds the hallowed title of ‘best’. Or, at a higher level, the student can use the final paragraph of their essay to look forward to the future of their relationship with their best friend.

My Best Friend Essay Story

While we are teaching a short essay on my best friend’, it can also be approached from another angle, i.e., as a nonfiction story.

While the clearcut essay format may be eminently suitable for younger students, you may wish to revisit this genre with older students, this time emphasising storytelling.

In this creative nonfiction approach, students can merge the essay format with storytelling elements such as character, setting, central conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.

Constructing their best friend composition in this manner allows students to work on structuring a nonfiction text. Simultaneously, it offers them a chance to develop their creative flair.

My Best Friend in 10 Lines

Another approach particularly well-suited to younger students is the my best friend essay 10 lines format.

This helps younger students get writing by giving them a clear target to aim for, which makes planning easy.

However, you can still introduce the three elements of the 5-paragraph essay here. As students list the points they want to make in their 10 lines, they can be encouraged to group these into introduction, body, and conclusion sections.

For example, a plan might look like this:

A ‘My Best Friend in 10 Lines’ Plan

Introduction

Line 1: My friend’s name.

Line 2: What she looks like.

Line 3: Where she is from/her family.

Line 4: What friendship means to me.

Line 5: How we met.

Line 6: The kindest thing she has ever done.

Line 7: The funniest thing she has ever done.

Line 8: My absolute favorite thing about her.

Line 9: Restate why she is my best friend.

Line 10: How I see our future together.

To complete their 10-line ode to their friend, the student simply builds proper sentences around each of these (or similar) ideas.

More on Planning a My Best Friend Composition

As we can see in the sample plan above, the planning process is relatively straightforward when the 5-paragraph essay structure serves as a framework. However, we may want to take things up a notch for students of a higher ability.

A good, old-fashioned brainstorming session is an excellent starting point for the student. They can list their favorite memories and their friend’s best features.

While younger students may inevitably write something of a hagiography (a biography of a saint!), older students may want to present a more realistic portrait of their ever-present amigo.

Likewise, if the student is undertaking their composition in a narrative nonfiction form, they’ll need to map out the narrative arc of their story at the planning stage.

As with any story, the conflict will serve as the engine of the narrative. However, this conflict does not have to take the form of a problem between the writer and the best friend. After all, this text is more likely to be something of a love letter than a letter of complaint. Instead, the conflict is more likely to take the form of a problem or a challenge faced by the writer and their pal together.

Whether or not the student’s text will take a full-blown story form, true-to-life anecdotes will bring life to the student’s writing. The planning process is the perfect time to dump these onto paper, even if they don’t all make it into the final draft.

How to Start a MY Best Friend Essay

As with most text types, fiction or nonfiction, the writer will want to grab the reader’s attention from the outset. An effective way of doing this is by using a hook.

How to Hook The Reader

The student writer has many methods available to grasp the reader’s attention. While some of these will only be suitable for more advanced students, most can be adapted with a bit of effort for our younger writers.

  • Start in the Middle of the Action

Technically known as, In Medias Res , this technique involves opening the story in the middle of a moment of dramatic tension with the exposition filled in later. This type of wizardry is probably best reserved for the more skilled student writer.

  • Make a Bold Promise at the Outset

The promise of a big payoff can undoubtedly catch a reader’s eye and draw them in, but the student-writer must follow through later in the text. For less experienced students, you may want to offer a writing prompt to help out here. For example,

My best friend Jack is truly one of a kind, but just how special he is wasn’t clear to me until the day a fire broke out in our school.

Students can quickly adapt such prompts by changing the event mentioned to their own circumstances.

  • Create a Sense of Intimacy

Another way to grasp the reader’s interest is to create a sense of intimacy right from the start. This can be achieved by addressing the reader directly in a conversational tone. Students should use informal language and approach writing their text as if they were speaking to a close friend – this is perfect for this writing style.

  • Open with an Anecdote

Another way to create interest (and a sense of intimacy) is to open up with an interesting anecdote about the friend. Students can select an interesting or humorous story to use as a carrot to entice the reader in. The student could substitute an exciting or amusing fact in shorter pieces for a full-blown anecdote.

  • Begin with a Quotation

Quotes are a great way to garner attention. There are many online repositories of inspirational quotes on every topic under the sun where students can find a golden nugget of friendship-based wisdom to open their masterpieces. They must simply type in keywords such as ‘famous’, ‘quotes’, and ‘friendship’ to uncover a smorgasbord of well-articulated wisdom for students to choose from. However, students should ensure the sentiment expressed in their selected quote ties into the type of friendship described in their work.

Working the Body

As we stated earlier in this article, the 5-paragraph essay structure, or the narrative writing arc, lays out a suitable template for the student-writer to work their way through the body of their text. However, it’s worth pointing out five areas where a little attention can significantly impact.

  • Get Specific

The devil’s in the details. The more specific the student is in their writing, the more effectively they will communicate with the reader.

Encourage students to be as precise as possible in their descriptions. A thesaurus is an excellent tool to help students find just the right word for the job.

  • Vary Sentence Length

Often, emergent writers rely on the same couple of simple sentence structures in their writing. This soon makes the writing monotonous for the reader; if they continue to read, it is only with effort that they will finish the student’s work.

Variety is not only the spice of life but also the spice of good writing. Encourage students to vary their sentence structures and alternate between long and short sentences to diversify the rhythm of their writing and evoke interest on the reader’s part.

  • Use Dialogue

Weaving dialogue into a my best friend essay text is a great way to bring colour and variety to a student’s writing. It also allows the student to practice punctuating dialogue – an essential skill!

Students will need to learn to listen carefully if they are to be able to write how people actually speak. Encouraging them to read their dialogue aloud is an effective way to check if it rings true.

  • Incorporate Literary Devices

Though this is undoubtedly a nonfiction text, it has firm roots in creative writing too. Students should incorporate some of the literary techniques and devices that we’d more commonly associate with poetry and fiction writing to add colour, creativity, and imagination to their writing.

For example, for younger students, physical descriptions of their BFF provide the perfect opportunity to introduce similes and hyperbole. Don’t be afraid to get comical here; writing should be fun, after all.

Does their friend have a big nose? How big? As big as an elephant’s trunk, perhaps?

Just make sure students avoid being too mean or poking fun at areas too sensitive for their friends.

It is easy to differentiate different abilities by challenging stronger students to use more complex literary devices in their work. Zoomorphism anyone?

  • Evoke the Five Senses

Emergent writers often display a bias towards only using the sense of sight in their descriptions. To bring their writing up a notch, encourage your students to employ all five senses in their writing.

By evoking the sense of hearing, smell, taste, and touch in their work, students will help their writing to come alive in the reader’s imagination.

WRAPPING THINGS Up

In a regular 5-paragraph essay, the concluding paragraph is usually the time to summarize the main arguments and drive home the thesis statement one more time. Obviously, things are a little bit different in a “my best friend essay.”

Of course, students can take the opportunity to revisit and restate the main reasons why their best friend holds the best-friend-championship belt. Still, there is a more artistic way to use their composition’s final paragraph.

Ask students to think about their friendship and where they see it in five, ten, twenty, or even forty years.

Undoubtedly, for younger students, in particular, this may be a bit of a challenge, but it can be a fun thought experiment too. Students can pose themselves questions to help, such as:

  • Will we be neighbours?
  • Will we work together?
  • Will our children go to school together? Etc.

Taking a tentative step into the possibilities of the future can make for an impactful ending.

My best friend is the greatest friend in the world.

The one person in the world that will give you equal love and devotion like your parents and lovers is your best friend. My best friend is Mark. We both study in the same school. Mark also helps me in my studies. We also live in the same locality. My best friend Mark and I spend most of the time together doing the things we like to do. We enjoy our life according to our needs and wishes.

My best friend helps me to become a better person. We plan our weekends and enjoy together. My best friend is the person who makes me happy and deserves all my love and attention. My best friend has been my support system and my strength. No one can take the place of my best friend Mark in my life.

Friendship is a great blessing in anybody’s life. A person gets acquainted with different people during their life journey. Among these, we find a few who think in our wavelength with similar taste and nature. We become more attached to these type of people and spend more time with them. Gradually a kind of relationship develops which turns out to leave long-lasting impressions in one’s life.

It is an indication of a healthy relationship, and the friendship starts from here. And for most of us, friends are more or less family. You and your friends will have many things in common. You spent most of your day with your friends. You share anything and everything with your friends. In short, the most memorable moments in everybody’s lives will be the ones spent with the best friends.

I am indeed lucky to have my school friend, Kajal as my best friend even now. I still remember the day I met her. It fell on the second day of my U.K.G class. It sounds to be a cock and bull story, but I earned the best friend of my life when I was just five years old. I do believe that she is the best thing ever happened to me. She is still there as strong motivator.

We played together, studied together, laughed together, sometimes cried together, did grow up together, made incredible memories together and finally when fourteen years of school life came to pause, we bid goodbye and parted our ways.

Friendship never ends:

Though miles apart, we either call or send messages on a daily basis. Wherever we go, we are connected by heart and manages to organize a meet up once every three months. We chat about the events in our lives so far, cherish our mischievous moments together, reminisce our good old days, capture every single moment in photographs and separate again.

Life continues its incredible journey, so many intimate friends moved in and out of my life, but none replaced the sole position reserved for my girl, now a strong woman, who stood by my side during the ebb and flow of my little life.

Introduction:

A friend is just anyone with whom a bond exists and mutual affection forms a relationship. A person could have many friends depending on the social character and the ease of being relatable with others. At different stages of life, we need friends who are the same level as us in order to fit in but to some people, that is not an option because they believe in functioning independently, which is still okay.

Psychologists recommend that people should co-exist together so that they can help each other during times of need. There is also a fact that coping mechanisms to stress are better off when friends are involved. A friend could be any one but a best friend is usually that one person you value the most of all your friends. A best friend is like family.

Who is my best friend?

My best friend is a girl named Shanaya. We grew up together. Our parents were friends from college and so they progressed to pursue the same career and that is how they ended up in the same neighborhood because they work in the same hospital. Her father is a doctor while my father is an anesthetist.

Since we were young, we would play together, went to school together. We were separated for about one year because she joined a different high school from mine but she later joined me at my current school. The separation made me realize that she was actually my best friend because it was hard without her around. My best friend and I are now in senior year but different classes. We interact on a daily basis.

Reasons why I like my best friend:

My best friend possesses qualities that just make me love her. She is kind to everyone, even animals. We have grown up like sisters and she has been the bigger sister to me because she has always protected me from bullies.

She is intelligent both academically and in issue concerning life. My class performance was not so good when she joined my school but through her help, I have been able to Improve. Her sense of fashion is impeccable. She always steals the attention of everyone when we walk together, which makes me invisible. We have very imaginative minds. Sometimes we just sit and plan our future and it is just amazing how she jokes about everything. She wants to be a doctor just like her father and she believes in humanity.

Who is a Friend?

The definition of a friend is relative to different personalities with their different backgrounds, orientations and beliefs. However, a conventional description of a friend is; someone you care about. Caring about someone goes beyond the ordinary meaning of the word. He or she must cherish the other enough to call it love.

Now love is built on trust; a friend is someone you trust, at least, to a reasonable extent. If I can’t trust you, then I’m in trouble having you as a friend. Where there is no trust, there is no love and where there is no love, there can’t be friendship.

Who deserves to be Called My Best Friend?

If a friend is someone I love, then my best friend should be the one I love most. Best friends are usually fond of themselves. When two friends get used to each other, a strong mutual understanding is created. At this level, their friendship hits new heights.

Understanding is very important in friendship. A person is most likely to pick the friend he or she understands the most as his/her best friend. These kind of friends must have become very compatible and would easily share almost anything because of their trust for each other.

One may opine that not everybody has such a friend. So, it may be expedient to consider another definition of a best friend as simply; the best amongst your friends. However, most people in such a case would not recognize a best friend amongst his/her friends. But just as we started, definitions of concepts in friendship are relative.

My Best Friend:

Now, I’m about to discuss my own best friend so my beliefs, strictly, are adequate enough at this level.

My best friend is Divyakshi. Not a best friend but my own best friend, ‘bestie’, as some would say, is one, among many I call friends, who has chosen to stay distinguished and I have accepted her proof of trust.

My best friend is my first friend, an acquaintance, one who has offered me presence, wasted and utilized time with me, won my trust and respect, shown me love and why I should love, supported and defended me, had my back and stood by me. My best friend has not just done these things to me but has made me see reasons to do same to her.

My best friend is a unique companion, the one among my friends who does the best things to me, for me and with me. She is simply indispensable and indescribable. She is not necessarily my lover but I love her.

My best friend and I are a team, we struggle together, we lie together, we fight together, we save each other, we back one another and we survive in this order. We may not be one but we make one. We may not be so strong but united, we stand tall.

My best friend, favorite pal, is the one among my friends I have found myself loving most.

Friends are an integral part of your life, be the school years, the college life, colleagues at office or friends near your house. Everyone needs friends to share their feelings, spend some good time and relax in life. I am fortunate to have such a friend in my life on which I can just rely for anything. Whether it is sharing my feelings, my good and bad times and sometimes even my clothes, I just enjoy everything with him. His name is Rishi.

Meeting my would be a best friend at School:

When I was in class 2, Rishi joined our school and our class. His parents have just migrated to our city and here he was, the first time in a new city, new school, new class and new people around it everywhere.

Fortunately, my teacher made him sit with me in the class. He was a bit shy at first, but by the end of the day, we both felt comfortable with each other. Subsequently, when we met each other every day, we realised that we had quite a many similarities and this allowed to gel with each other easily. Since then there has been no looking back.

Our Friendship:

Our friendship slowly became the talk to the class and gradually we became best friends. Even our teachers came to know about it and. But, thanks to all, no one ever tried to create distance between us as we complemented each other so perfectly that even our teachers and parents felt happy about it. In fact, we used to help each other with class notes as well as homework if one of us could not attend the school due to any reasons. In fact, we had this healthy competition in us as to who would stand first in the class.

Our Common Interests:

Apart from studies, we both a common interest in table tennis. We both joined an academy and used to go for practice together in the evenings. The only difference in our habits, perhaps, was the while I was right-handed, he was a left-handed person. But this was also a blessing in disguise for us as due to this very reason we made a good team and were even selected in our school team to play as a doubles team. We both won many competitions together and brought accolades to the school. This made our parents as well as school teachers very proud of us.

Different Career Paths:

After our schooling, we got separated as we both chose different career paths. While I went on to become an engineer, Rishi went to a different city to become a scientist. But, as life would have it, after some years, we both landed in the same city and came in contact with each other again.

My best friend has been the biggest strength for me in my life. During the weekend, we went to a short cookery course as well, and we sometimes get a kick out of the chance to cooperate in the kitchen and make some creative dishes. At times these dishes turn out well, however, there are times when we don’t hit the nail on the head as we might not have pursued the formula accurately. Our wives are thoughtful and don’t admonish us much when we mess up a dish. My friend and I appreciate watching films together amid occasions or excursions. We like watching comedies. Horror films don’t excite us and we try to stay away from them.

My Friend, my strength:

In my times of need, my best friend has been a pillar of strength for me. Not only did he take care to see that I resolve my issues, but also ensured that my family is not affected much due to the turmoil in my professional life. He has always encouraged me to face problems as they are and not to duck under during adverse situations. I am glad that I have such a friend in my life on which I can rely on blindly.

Why a friend is so important?

True friendship is the most prized thing in the world. Although, it may be, at times, that one does not have a friend whom one can call as a best friend. But, if you are able to find someone like a best friend to you, it is perhaps, the greatest joy in the world. The mutual understanding and honesty which can be shown by your best friend cannot be done by anyone else in the world. A best friend is indeed a precious gem in one’s life.

Friends are the family that we get to choose. Blessed are those who have a best friend for life. A best friend is nothing less than a precious gem. And I am lucky to have such a person in my life. My best friend’s name is Deepa and I met her in school.

My family used to live in Lucknow. But then a few years ago my father got transferred and we came to the town of Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh. Everything was new here. The neighborhood, the market, and even the school.

I was not liking it here much. At this new school, nobody knew me. As I was shy, I had difficulty making friends and felt lonely all the time. During the lunch breaks, I used to have lunch all by myself. Although the teachers were nice to me, I still missed my old school.

One day, when I was sitting in my seat, a girl came to me and introduced herself. She was Deepa. She smiled at me and asked if I wanted to have the lunch with her. That day, we spent a great time together. We told each other about ourselves, our families, likings, and dislikings.

Slowly, we became best friends. I liked her nature. She was soft-spoken and always had a smile on her face. The school was close to my home but Deepa used to come to school by cycle. So, when the school would be over, we would often walk together till we reached my home. From there, we would say goodbye to each other and she would start riding the cycle to her home.

A few weeks passed by. The weather was changing and I had a high fever. It was a viral infection, so I needed a bed-rest all the time. I had to miss the classes. I was also worried about the coming exams, wondering how I would cover the unattended chapters.

To my surprise, Deepa came to visit me as she already knew my address. She was worried about my health but she consoled me and asked me not to panic about the studies. Next day, when she came to my house, there were plenty of photocopied notes with her. It was all for me so that I could study easily.

My best friend would stay with me for a few hours to explain the difficult concepts and chapters in mathematics and other subjects. Gradually, my health was improving and I had also prepared most of the syllabus for the upcoming exam. In my heart, I felt so lucky to have Deepa as my best friend.

When the exam results came, we both had passed with good marks. It was all because of Deepa’s efforts and hard work that made everything possible. Later I made a greeting card for her to express my affection and gratitude toward her. She was so excited and happy to see it.

After that incident, our families also developed a bonding. I and Deepa became inseparable sisters. In the coming month of October, it was my best friend’s birthday. I and the other classmates in the school had planned a day out for her. In the evening, there was a party at her house.

So, we all decided to give her a surprise party and take her to a nearby picnic spot in the afternoon. Everybody contributed a little for the cake and snacks. Deepa came to school in her lovely sky blue frock. She looked like a fairy.

After the school was over, we took her to the picnic spot. She cut the cake and we all enjoyed the snacks. Deepa was thrilled with her surprise party. After everybody had eaten, we all decided to enjoy the boat ride. Only 4 people could come in one boat. So, with two other girls, Deepa and I settled in a boat. Rest of the students took separate boats.

It was a pleasant day. The lake was small but beautiful and the wind was so cool. We were all singing together and cheering up. In the clear blue water of the lake, we could see the colorful fishes swimming rapidly. There were also ducks and swans adding to the beauty of the scene.

Everybody started clapping looking at those pretty birds. Deepa also became quite excited. Just when she was trying to wave her hand and touch the ducks, she lost her balance. Before anyone could understand, she slipped into the lake.

Everyone was shocked to see this. Without losing a minute, I jumped into the water. Nobody knew but I had learned swimming in my previous school. At a distance, I could see Deepa struggling in the water. I swam to her and grabbed her arm. Soon, the boat arrived there and the girls pulled us out one by one.

For a few minutes, Deepa was unable to breathe. But with some efforts, the water came out of her mouth and she started feeling better. She was cold and shivering with fright. We immediately came to the side and took Deepa to her house.

When her parents heard what happened they were shaken and disturbed. The doctor came to see her and said that there was no need to worry. Deepa was all right now. We helped her wrap up in a warm cozy bed. She looked at me with tears in her eyes and told her parents about how I jumped into the water to save her from drowning.

I told her about my swimming classes in the old school and promised her to be there for her in every difficult situation. I also reminded her of when I was ill and she used to come to my house to teach me the chapters and as she was my best friend, I did the same for her today.

Her parents also got emotional and they hugged me. Deepa and I became true best friends. From that day, we support and help each other in every decision. I wish every person could experience a friendship like this.

Key Points to Remember When Writing an Essay on My Best Friend for Class 3

My best friend for class 3 kids – 10 lines, short paragraph on my best friend for class 3, long paragraph on my best friend for class 3, what your 3rd grader will learn from the ‘my best friend’ essay.

Friends, especially best friends, are valuable in our lives, and they make our lives more enjoyable, adventurous, and full of happiness. And so, writing an essay on ‘My Best Friend’ for grade 3 in English can be an ideal topic for your child to begin their creative writing journey with. More than any other friend, best friends are always there for us, no matter what, and we share our emotions, dreams, worries, and virtually everything else with them. This essay for a best friend, therefore, is easy for kids since they can easily express things they love about them. In the process, it also helps improve creative writing, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and paragraph formation. Overall, it has a significant impact on the child’s personality and English language development.

To write an essay about your best friend, a 3rd grader should pay attention to some key points to make the essay interesting. These key points are:

  • You should mention the name of your best friend.
  • Remember to write about the good qualities of your best friend.
  • Reasons as to why you love your best friend.
  • Share the games or activities you do with your best friend.
  • Write what activity you enjoy with your best friend the most.
  • Remember to write why you are so close to your best friend.

To improve their creative writing and English language knowledge, 3rd graders are asked to write essays. Their best friend is the one closest to them – their playmate and someone with whom they share everything. So, they can easily express their thoughts on this essay topic. Here are ten lines on ‘My Best Friend’ for Class 3 kids:

  • I have many friends, and Rohit is my best friend amongst them.
  • Rohit has been my best friend since childhood.
  • He lives near my home, and we go to the same school.
  • He is a good boy who helps everyone, is friendly and well-behaved.
  • Rohit is good at studies and sports too.
  • Together we play many sports such as football and cricket.
  • We study in different classes but play together during recess.
  • He’s very helpful. He helps me with my homework and assignments.
  • Rohit always shares his lunch and chocolates with me.
  • I am lucky to have a friend like Rohit with whom I can share everything.

Young kids love their best friends. They want to tell everybody how interesting and great their best friends are. So, it’s exciting for them to write about their best friend. Here is a short essay on ‘My Best Friend’ for class 3 children:

I have many good friends, but I like Rohit the best among them. He is my closest friend with whom I share everything. He lives near my house, and we do everything together. We go to the same school, play together and study together. Rohit is a well-mannered boy who is respectful and talks nicely to everyone. He is good at studying, so he sometimes helps me with my homework. Rohit is also good at sports and plays cricket and football well. My parents like Rohit a lot, and he respects them too. I am lucky to be best friends with a good boy like Rohit.

Once your 3rd grader has learned to form sentences and short compositions, the next step is to write a long essay. Writing long essays requires them to use their creativity and imagination to express themselves. Here is a long paragraph on ‘My Best Friend’:

A best friend is like a treasure. Though I have many friends, Rohit is the one I am closest to. Our houses are near each other, so we have been friends since childhood. He is one year older than me. Still, we are very close. We both go to the same school but different classes. During lunch, we share our lunch and play together. Rohit is a very likeable boy and is very friendly. Everyone praises Rohit as he is polite, helpful, and well-mannered. He is good at studies and comes first in his class. As he is one class ahead of me, he sometimes helps me with my homework and school assignments. My parents also praise Rohit and like him a lot. Rohit has a small dog called Roxy. When I go to his house, we both play with Roxy. His mother cooks delicious food for both of us while his father brings us chocolates and ice creams. Rohit looks like his father, who is tall and thin. His father sometimes plays cricket with us. Rohit is good at playing cricket like his father. We both go to the playground together and play cricket or football with our other friends in the evenings. On holidays we see movies or cartoons together. Sometimes our parents take us to the library or book shop to read comics or storybooks. We both love to read books. Rohit and I also like to dance. When we can’t go out, we spend our time dancing or reading storybooks. Sometimes our other friends also join us, and we all have a great fun time. We both like the same things and share everything. So, we never get bored and always have so much to talk and do together. Having a great friend like Rohit has made my life beautiful.

An essay for grade-3 children needs to be something they feel strongly about and can write well about. In this case, a best friend essay is an interesting topic, which can help young children learn how to form sentences and write long-form essays. So, interesting topics like my best friend are easy for them. As they practice writing essays on their best friend, the 3rd grader also improves their English vocabulary, grammar, and creative writing skills.

Easy and interesting essay topics for a young kid in grade 3 help them take an interest in learning. They can form sentences and paragraphs with fun and engaging topics, thereby improving their language, knowledge and creative writing skill.

Essay on My Best Friend in English

English Essay Writing Topic – My Best Friend

My best friend is someone I can always count on, no matter what. They’re the ones I know I can always trust, no matter what. They’re the ones to whom I can always go for a shoulder to cry on or vent my anger. They’re my rock, and I can’t imagine my life without them.

What is a friend?

  • Importance Of Friends

How can one make more friends?

What is the difference between friends and family, good friends versus bad friends.

A friend is someone you can rely on, someone you can trust. A friend is someone you can confide in and count on for support. Being a friend means one with whom you feel comfortable and are accepted for who you are. A friend is someone you can have fun with, whether you’re going on an adventure or just staying in for a cozy night. When you need a shoulder to cry on or someone who makes you laugh, a friend is there for you.

A friend is someone who will be there for you through thick and thin. So if you’re wondering what a friend is, that’s a start.

There are varying degrees of friendships – from casual acquaintances to close friends.

  • Casual friends are those people we see everyday, like our classmates or neighbours. We might say hello and chat for a bit, but there’s not a lot of depth to the relationship.
  • Close friends are the people we confide in, who know us inside out. We might not see them everyday, but when we do, it feels like catching up with an old friend. We can talk about anything and everything, and there’s a feeling of comfort and warmth.

Importance Of Friends

Friends provide us with support, friendship, guidance, criticism, a patient ear and a shoulder to cry on. They make our lives more enjoyable by being there when we need them.

We all need good friends, people we can count on and who are always there for us. Friends are an essential part of our lives, and we should cherish them. We should tell them how much they mean to us and how much we appreciate their friendship.

Whether you realise it or not, your friends play a crucial role in your life. They are the ones who are there for you during the good times and the bad times. These are the people who know you from the inside out and accept you regardless of what you look like.

Friends are important because they help us to be happier and healthier. Studies have shown that people with strong social relationships are more likely to live longer and have a lower risk of developing dementia. Friendships help reduce stress and anxiety and boost our immune system.

So if you ever feel alone in this world, remember that you have friends who care about you and will always be there for you.   Top

Making friends can be difficult, especially if you are an introvert or have a small social circle. But you can do a few things to make the process easier.

Here are some tips on how to make more friends:

  • Get involved in activities and clubs that interest you. This is a great way to meet like-minded people.
  • Smile and be friendly. People are more likely to approach you if you seem open and friendly.
  • Don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation. Ask people about their day, their interests, etc.
  • Be a good listener. People will appreciate you if you take an interest in what they have to say.
  • Offer help and support. If you see someone struggling, offer to help them. People will remember your kindness.

Making friends takes effort, but it can be an advantageous experience. By following these tips, you’ll be on your way to making new friends in no time.   Top

There are many differences between friends and family, but the most important ones revolve around support and care.

Friends are typically people you have things in common with and enjoy spending time with, while the family is the group of people you are obligated to remain with.

There are some problems that we face that we may not want to share with our family, but we feel comfortable sharing with our best friend. Our best friend knows us inside and out, and they can offer a listening ear and some good advice. Sometimes, it’s helpful to have someone to talk to who understands us and our situation. So, if you’re feeling struggling with something, don’t be afraid to reach out to your best friend. They’ll be there to listen and to help you through whatever you’re going through.   Top

As the saying goes – “A friend in need is a friend in deed”, a true friend is one who stands by you in difficult times.

  • A good friend is someone who is there for you when you need them. They are honest with you and are not afraid to tell you the truth, even if it might hurt your feelings. They also respect your boundaries and don’t try to control you.
  • A bad friend is always trying to take advantage of you. They are manipulative and often lie to you to get what they want. They also don’t respect your boundaries and often try to control you.

Undoubtedly, having good friends is one of the best things in life. They make you laugh, are there for you when you need them, and make live more fun.

However, what about bad friends? Is it worth having them in your life?

Well, that depends. Some bad friends might be annoying, while others can be downright toxic. If you can deal with the annoying ones and still keep them as friends, that’s great. But it might be time to let them go if you’re constantly fighting with someone or they’re just making your life miserable.

How can you tell if someone is a good friend or a bad friend? You can make the distinction by looking for a few key indicators.

A good friend is loyal and supportive, someone you can count on during good times.

A bad friend is always looking to start drama or is quick to turn on you. They may also be someone who is constantly trying to one-up you or make you feel inferior.

If you’re unsure whether someone is a good or bad friend, ask yourself how you feel after spending time with them. Do you feel good about yourself or feel drained and stressed out? If it’s the latter, then they’re probably not good friends.   Top

A true friend is someone with whom you share a deep bond and mutual understanding. You can always count on this person, confide in, and will always be there for you.

The importance of making friends cannot be overstated. It helps us to find our place in the world and to feel connected to others.

Psychologists say that people usually become friends with those on the same social level as them – in other words, people with similar likes, dislikes, and opinions. This is because we feel more comfortable with those who think like us.

But it’s not just about finding someone with similar interests. A good friend is also someone who will be there for you in times of need. Someone you can rely on.

So, if you’re looking for a true friend, look for someone who shares your values and who you can rely on. You will gain more meaning and richness from these people.

My Best Friend Essay

My best friend is someone who always stays by my side and never turns his back on me. We study in the same class and share almost same opinion on most of the issues. My best friend always supports me in studies and gives me emotional support also. Whenever I feel low or get upset, he comes for my help. Fortunately, our houses are also not very far from each other and we manage to meet for evening walk or post dinner walk. Gradually our relationship has become more evolved and deep. We’re closer than sisters could be, thicker than any thieves. You know all my secrets, all my wild ambitions. You support every one of my craziest fantasies. What would I do without you? I guess I’d have to watch Rent and Titanic on my own, on the couch, with a pint of ice cream and no one to cry with. I’d have to learn to take care of myself. I’d have to dole out my own advice. I’d have to scheme and dream – all on my own.
Romantic relationships are based on expectations and responsibilities. Professional relationships are based on gains and losses. But friendship is based on smiles and laughter. Good morning my friend.
We’re best friends because we can go for long stretches of time without talking and it won’t damage the relationship. We always pick up where we left off. Surfaces changes mean nothing to us. You could become a vegan who goes by Moonshadow and attends Burning Man, and I would still feel closer to you than anyone else. We don’t need common interests in order to connect. We don’t need a mutual love of music or sports or whatever to keep us together.
Thank you first of all for accepting me and loving me for exactly who I am. This isn’t easy. I can be stubborn, difficult and confusing, but you love and accept me for me. There are days I wonder when you’ll finally come to your senses and move on and find a new BFF, one who isn’t so complicated, but to my amazement, you never do. You tell me you’ll take the good with the bad, and when I question whether I have any good left, you’re always there to reassure me and show me that I do. Thank you for loving me in my dorky and difficult moments, moments where if the rest of the world saw them, they’d probably walk away. Thank you for understanding me like no one else does; if we didn’t have the connection we did, I can’t imagine how lonely and big this world would feel. Because of you, this world seems like a little friendlier place, one I can see myself being a part of.
No matter where life takes us, I will always be your best friend. I will be there when you need someone to talk to, whether you’re elated or depressed. I’ll be there when you want company through a long, lonely day. I will be by your side through thick and thin, in sickness and in health because you’re my best friend and I cherish you so much.
Honestly, I can talk about you all day and all through the night, and even now I have a million more things to say. Be that as it may, too many words get to be good for nothing, so I’ll simply end it at “you’re the most magnificent individual I’ve ever met, and I can’t envision not having you in my life.
Even though we don’t see each other every day, I will never stop cherishing our friendship. Even if we don’t hear from each other every time, I will never stop reminiscing about you and the beautiful moment we’ve had together. And even though the sun stops shining and the cloud doesn’t pour down rain on the earth, I will never stop being your sweet friend. I love you beyond the stars, my sweetest friend.

But most importantly, the one thing that hasn’t changed is that you’re still here with me. You are still by my side. You have no idea how happy that makes me feel. I may not have many friends, but it doesn’t bother me because you’re the only friend that I am satisfied with, not only as my friend but also my best friend. You are one of the most precious and important people in my life. We may be far apart from each other, but I know that our bond is stronger than the distance between us. You are such a huge blessing to me. You may not see it now, but you have made a big impact in my life for the better. I appreciate you and all the kind gestures you’ve made and continue to make for me. You are one of the main reasons why I believe that the world can be better. Do not change anything about yourself because you are perfect just the way you are.
Each passing day reveals a new and better side of you. The more I know your beautiful soul, the more I fall for it. You are my special one, the one I will choose over everyone else. My dearest, purest and rarest best friend, I love you from the core of my heart. We met by chance, and now we are best friends by choice. You are the best thing that ever happened to me. I am grateful to God a thousand times for bringing you into my life and making me complete.
You mean the absolute world to me. I love you so much because you go above and beyond to be there for me when I need you. I am the luckiest person to have a friend like you. We’ve come so far, and I am so grateful to have you by my side every step of the way. You’re the sweetest and most supportive person I know. And I just know that our friendship will continue to grow as the days and years go by.
I might not be able to know everything about you, my dearest. Because each and every day is another avenue for me to know you a bit more than before; to get to be closer to you and cherish you so much more than ever before. And I want you to know that one of the reasons why I’m with you is to know you much better. I adore you, my beautiful friend.
Just as true friendship is not measured by how far we’ve been together but rather how well it has been between us. So also real bonding is not measured by the time we’ve spent together in each other company but rather the solace and solitude that comes with being with you, my awesome friend. I love you more than you know.
After looking back at all we have been through, I am more confident now than never before that you are a rare treasure that should be adored. You have been my backbone and my inspiration. My secrets are safer with you than they are with me. I love you, friend.
You are my best friend, my other half, my rock and my anchor, all rolled up into one lovely human being. You are the most special person in my life. We have such a rare bond that can’t be replicated by anyone else. You get me like no one else does. I love how much our friendship has developed from when we were little kids to our adult years. I adore you so much with every inch of my heart.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that I love you. Friendship is one of the most rewarding things life has to offer, and I refuse to take it for granted. I refuse to take you for granted. You, my best friend, my sister, my partner-in-crime. Even when all I can see is the worst in me, you still see the best. You remind me who I am, and who I want to be. You make me a better person. And while the world might tremble at the sight of the two of us (because, honestly, together we’re a force to be reckoned with), I know there’s no one I’d rather laugh and cry with.
Because of you, I laugh a little harder, cry a little less, and smile a whole lot more. Because of you, I’ve learned so many new things that I wouldn’t have learned if you weren’t by my side. Because of you, my experiences in life seem so much richer and so much fuller. Because of you, I can proudly say that there’s someone out there in the world who loves me for who I am – throughout all my craziness and boring moments and everything in between. Because of you, I can say that I am a better person who is made happier with you as my best friend.
I’m grateful to God for making our way crossed and brought you to me. We might not be together every day, but I am sure that you will always be there for me whenever I need you. Because your friendship is like the sunrise which I can’t always have throughout my day, but I’m certain that you will always be there each time I wake up to the break of a new dawn. I love you more than love itself, my best friend.
You are my mirror and my shadow. You are my mirror because you’d never lie to me. You’d always show me who I truly am. And you’d never let me go out of the house wearing an awful outfit. And you are my shadow, too. You never leave my side. You’re always there for me when I need you. And when life shines brightly on me, I feel your presence so much more because I know you’re supporting me through it all.
If our friendship was to be a big beautiful building; I would be the ground, to protect you from every creepy thing and I would be the roof, to be a shade over you during the rainy day; I would be the wall to shield you from the scourging dart of failures; I would be the door, to close every disappointment behind you and I would be the window, so that you can always see clearly every opportunity within your reach. I love you to the moon and back, sweetheart.
I know you’re my best friend because I don’t need to talk to you every single day. I don’t need to be around you all the time. In fact, we can go for weeks without talking. But as soon as we get together, it’s as if we had never stopped talking. Thank you for being my best friend.
My dearest best friend. I hope you stay in my life forever because our friendship is one of the best things to ever happen to me. You light up my life like no other. There is too much to do together. Also, you’re always the person who can bring sunshine to my heart. I love you, my dear best friend.

I am writing you this letter with an invitation to change some of your views and consider my arguments. As you know, we completely disagree on a topic of religious diversity. I remember you told me that religious polarization should take place and it seems for you a more desired outcome. I think you should reconsider this and take into account other points of view. I understand that this is what you were taught but I hope you can open your mind to my position. You always look for disagreements in religious beliefs and on that basis you separate yourself from those of differing religious adherence. I think it is a misleading approach. I want to convince you that religious pluralism is what we should aim for because it will give more positive outcomes. First of all, every religious group has a right to have beliefs. Don’t you think so? As people are equal in gender and race they should not be discriminated because of their beliefs. Inter-faith tolerance is the cure for these conflicts and a new reality people should adjust to. The world is changing very rapidly and The States are not the same as the Founders of the nation wanted it to become. Due to such reasons as globalization and immigration it is not the Christian country, although the majority of population is Christian. But the presence of mosques, buddist temples and other prayer buildings forces it to deal with inter-faith challenges and change the attitude toward religion on the state level. As a non-Christian you may often feel some sort of discrimination from the exclusive Christians, but I’d like to show you a case where the Christians themselves were discriminated for their religious belonging. I wonder whether you’ve heard of the conflict in Vanderbilt University? It quite shocked me. Let me briefly tell you. The problem there was that suddenly the policies of the University had changed and students who belonged to a religious group were forced off campus if they don’t agree with the “new rules”. You may be surprised, but it is not about Muslims, it was a Christian group. “When you start taking away freedoms – it harms everyone “, says Carol Swain, a professor of political Science at the university speaks for freedom of religion which was banned by the administration. The case of a Christian group forced to be closed shows that the same can happen any day with other religious or minority groups. I think it is a bright case which shows the problem – selecting people on the basis of belief is completely wrong idea. Firstly, a belief is a private business of a person and secondly, it is not a person’s status, as it can be changed unlike the last one. I know, one may say that I am not a true Muslim if I promote religious pluralism, as accordding to our belief it is incorrect, Islam is the only true and conclusive religion and other religions do not have the last revelation as we do. But do you think that the enmity and war can bring any positive fruits?! In my opinion, we have to admit that all religions contain some element of truth therefore they should be seeking the source of truth through their worship. Let me also give an example from the Muslim religion. Both Shi’ite and Sunni are valid and contain true messages. What I am also trying to say is that religious tolerance movement at the same time can be divided into inter-religious and intra-religious pluralism. The Jewish views on religios pluralism are not much different from the Muslim side. It is acknowledged is a shared set of rabbinic literature that the sole and exclusive source of truth does not belong to one religion, but it exists partly in different religions. I encourage you to take a look on some books which shed more light on the topic. For example, a book by Diana Eck, a religious scholar at Harvard University, who presents the problem of religious mixture and diversity titled “A new religious America”. She claims that the States which started as a very Christian country became the world’s most religiously diverse nation. Therefore religious pluralism must be adjusted into these new cultural circumstances. A famous researcher and a discoverer of clash of civilizations” phenomenon “Huntington states that nowadays differences in culture and religion are overwhelming any other conflicts. It is not based on nationality or economic status, people are fighting on a base of religious views. He notes that the clash of civilization is clearly visible between Islam and Christianity and informs that Islam countries have “Bloody borders” pointing to the wars and conflicts between Muslim anad non-Muslim countries. The problem of free speech being on trial is raised in another video I suggest you to have a look on. The event that happened at Irvine University, California, where the members of muslim student union. The Orange County district attorney’s office charged the eleven arrested MSU students with counts of conspiracy to disturb a lawful meeting and the disturbance of the meeting. As a Muslim I find this case very appealing and unjust but I think that the method used by the students was not rightly chosen. The same is about terrorists. Fundamentalists and pro-war people are irrelevant to religion of Islam. I believe that terrorism and any other violent ways of showing intolerance have no religion in its roots. In contrast to those videos a political scientist and a professor of Harvard University Robert Putnam brings the results of surveys showing that America’s religious diversity hasn’t generally involved much intolerance. An interesting fact is that if mainstream Christians view Muslims and Buddists quite negatively, black-skinned Christians treat Muslims more positively because of the contacts with black Muslims. It means that it is not only religion that causes conflicts and hatred between people but it is nationally and racially based. Robert Wuthnow also studies the sources and consequences of religious diversity in the contemporary United States. He claims that religion matters and resisting diversity is a feature of those who deny to see the reality and stay tightly wrapped in their conservatism. He brings an example of Mrs. Mobley as a narrow-minded person who chooses to believe that only Christians will have a life after death and everybody needs to be converted. Her position is criticized by the author, who claims that now is a time to “ask God question they never considered before”. Let’s also look on interfaith marriages. According to the surveys used by Putnam, nearly one half of Americans are in married with the spouses from different denomination of religion. This fact shows that harmony and peace between religions in possible to achieve. The topic is raised in Wuthnow’s book. Negotiating religiously mixed marriages is an issue for American society, he claims, saying that confronting different religion on a daily basis is a serious task. In my opinion, it is a sign that love, which is at the core of most religions, can overcome any prejudices against religious intolerance. I encourage you to widen your worldview and understand that religious pluralism is better. The religious tensions also show your self-reflection. One, who does not respect others does not respect him/herself. For me religious pluralism seems a more desired outcome, I support the idea of World Peace and do not agree with a statement that killing or other violence can be done in the name of Allah. I hope the videos and books I suggested you will change your mind and you will join me in this position. We can also continue our discussion.

A Letter to My Dear Friend

A Letter to My Dear Friend

Grammar mistakes

Redundant words

Readability

Hello Friend, I have decided to write a letter to you about drinking, which I didn’t think I would have to do. Anyway let’s start. Drinking is very dangerous if you consume a lot. You can have liver damage, brain damage and many other problems that will eventually lead to death. When you drink you could get into a car with a complete stranger and they could start driving under the influence of alcohol, which can result into a car crash which could take your life.

Anything could happen when you’re under the influence of alcohol. You then start to become dependent on alcohol as well, making your life seem ‘better’. Another thing about drinking is that you can become really depressed when you drink it, which could lead to suicide. You can become angry when you get drunk which can lead to violence and someone might die from your own stupidity. You can shorten your life by just drinking a drink.

Don’t go drinking at a bar in the middle of the night because a stranger could come up and do anything to you and you might not be able to do anything because your reflexes aren’t great and are extremely slow because you’re drunk. Do you want to be stupid and get into a car with someone who’s drunk and driving the car? Do you want to kill someone because they looked at you funny when you were drunk? Do you want to be caught over the influence when you’re driving? No you don’t. That’s why you should never drink unless you want to endanger your health. This is for your own good. Think before you drink.

Dear Wife Analysis

Dear Annie: Poor treatment by my brothers during a visit has me second-guessing invitations to visit friends

  • Dear Annie, Annie Lane

Dear Annie: My aunt relocated to Florida from Illinois with her husband. When her sisters would come for a visit, she would make a “Whoopee List.” It was a list of things to do with them while they were there, such as going to Disney World and other neat things!

Yes, we now live in a world that has changed greatly, but I try to remember to treat our guests like royalty, as my aunt did. I believe having good hospitality is even biblically based.

I’m the youngest of five. When I went to visit a couple of my brothers, they treated me the complete opposite of the way my aunt treated her sisters. I think one brother did not really want me there. I must say that I’m hesitant to ever visit them again.

I was very hurt by the way they treated me. And it is one of those lessons in life where we learn. I still do the polite things of sending birthday and Christmas cards, but the closeness is gone.

I have friends in Washington and Florida who have invited me, but I’m reluctant to even visit them. I think we all must make a note to treat visitors -- even those who show up unexpectedly at our front door -- kindly, politely and with genuine regard. We definitely know that when a family member or friend returns for another visit to our home, we did right with them on their previous visit.

I truly appreciate sharing this with you, and it helps me to write to you about this matter. It has been on my mind for years. -- Visiting Family and Friends

Dear Visiting Family: Your letter highlights one of the most important rules of life: the golden rule, which is to treat others as you would want to be treated. Whether that applies to a guest in your house or to any other situation in your daily life, you will be much happier and relaxed if you practice this rule. If your brothers don’t apply it, that’s their problem, not yours.

Dear Abby

Dear Abby: My lady friend wants me to buy her husband lunch

Attractive couple looking at a menu during a romantic dinner in a fancy restaurant at night

DEAR ABBY: I have a woman friend I take out to lunch every once in a while. I often pay the check. When she goes back home to her husband, he’s upset that she didn’t bring something back for him. He tells my friend, “It’s what partners do.”

Abby, these people are not without food or the means to get it. Neither one is starving, and he doesn’t bring back anything for her when he goes out. What are your thoughts on this? — NOT BUYING FOR TWO

DEAR NOT BUYING: The next time you take this friend to lunch, if she asks to order something for her husband, tell her it’s fine with you, but his portion of the check will be on her .

P.S. And if “that’s what partners do” for each other, it shouldn’t be a one-way street. What a manipulator!

DEAR ABBY: I am the mother of a daughter, “Rebecca,” I placed for adoption when I was a teenager. Long story short, we have reunited. We not only have a wonderful relationship, but I have a great relationship with Rebecca’s adoptive mom, and my husband and children (with my husband) all have an open and caring relationship with her.

Fast-forward to my recent visit with Rebecca. She and I were out, and we ran into a friend of hers. She introduced me by saying, “This is Sally, my birth mother.” I had no problem with it and received a warm reception from her friend (who, I think, did have some “backstory” knowledge).

However, my later thoughts led me here: If the situation would be reversed, and I would be introducing her to someone, what do I say? There’s NO term for our “status.” I think of her as my daughter, but most people who have known me and my husband for 30 years or so don’t know I had a child as a teenager.

I love Rebecca, who is 50 now. Why isn’t there a term to describe who she is to me (without long explanations)? I feel like this relationship needs a term, too. — REUNITED IN LOUISIANA

DEAR REUNITED: Try this on for size: When you introduce your daughter to someone who hasn’t met her before, say, “I’d like you to meet my oldest daughter, Rebecca.”

DEAR ABBY: I am 43, and I have been talking to this guy for seven months. We agree that we aren’t dating, and we are best friends with benefits. But it seems as though we spend all our time together and that we are basically dating, but without the title. How do I get this commitment-phobe to realize we should be together without actually telling him? It would scare him off. — LACKING STATUS IN NEW JERSEY

DEAR LACKING: To you, the relationship you have with this guy seems like dating. To him, it’s friends with benefits. Nothing will change unless the two of you can have an honest conversation. If his way of handling it is to head for the hills — after seven months — then he really isn’t what you’re looking for. Sorry.

Dear Abby: Should I tell my mom what I saw on her boyfriend’s phone?

DEAR ABBY: My mom is a widow and has been dating a man. One day, after they went out, I noticed he had left his phone behind. I know it sounds horrible, but I snooped and found that he has been texting another woman. He calls her “gorgeous,” offers to bring her food, tells her “sweet dreams,” sends her photos of himself, etc.

I always knew Mom could do better, and I had my suspicions about this guy. I am very protective of her. She has been through so much. What do I do with this information? If I tell her, I’ll feel ashamed for looking in the first place. Please help. -- SNOOP IN MISSOURI

DEAR SNOOP: You HAVE to tell your mother what you did and what you found. Do not classify it as “he’s cheating,” because you don’t know for certain. Simply state the facts, then let her do her own investigating and draw her own conclusions.

Dear Annie: My 23-year-old unemployed daughter thinks socializing is the solution to her problems

DEAR ANNIE: My daughter is 23 years old. She moved back in with me following a bad, toxic relationship. I told her I would help her. The problem is she doesn’t have a driver’s license or a job to stand on her own two feet and be independent. She believes going out with some friends she met online is a good start in getting her sadness and depression to go away. I told her she needs to have priorities and real goals because I’m not going to continue helping her financially.

She is not looking for a job, doesn’t want to study for the driving test or even get an education. I don’t know what else to do. The tools for her are there, but she doesn’t want them. She just continues to focus on socializing as the solution to her problems. Any advice? -- “Strict” Mother

DEAR STRICT MOTHER: Let me set the record straight: You are not being “strict” in the slightest. Your daughter needs a reality check. She is lucky to have a parent who is as supportive and willing to help her as you are when she is so in need of that help and direction. But that doesn’t mean she gets to coast through life on your generosity.

The solution is simple. Either she starts taking steps in the right direction to iron out her life -- getting a job or enrolling in school, becoming a licensed driver -- in your home, or she finds a home of her own.

Help! I’m Watching My Best Friend’s Life Crash and Burn. I Need to Put a Stop to It.

In we’re prudence, prudence asks readers for their thoughts on a question that has her stumped. the answer is available only for slate plus members..

Each week in the Tuesday column, Prudence asks readers for their thoughts on a question that has her stumped. She’ll post her final thoughts on the matter on Fridays.

Here’s this week’s dilemma and answer; thanks to  Cut Your Losses, Elaine, Sage, Cori M., Sober LMFT, Sober Today By Grace Alone, and Pat H for their ideas!

Dear Prudence,

My husband and I’s best friend is now a DEEPLY alcoholic  NEET  bouncing from place to place while we financially fund him to keep a roof over his head. This arrangement continually blows up in our faces—he’s gotten kicked out of a generous offer from my father-in-law because he trashed the place, he’s being denied other housing now due to his past actions, and we have him safe with a brother-in-law for now since he has no one/nowhere else to go (his family connections are blown up as well). He is states away and refuses to room with us. He tends to spend some of the rent money on alcohol and frequently closes us out of his life.

We would like visibility into his job search, we want him to go to AA (he stopped after two weeks because it was “too religious” and rejected the non-religious alternatives), and we want him to be able to thrive—but we aren’t his parents, and we don’t have the jurisdiction to demand these things (asking with “I” statements didn’t work). We gave him notice that we’ll cover the next three months of rent/food and then stop in hopes he can find his footing on a generous time limit… but now he’s angry at us. We are trying so hard to have compassion for him and struggling to get him the resources he needs, but when we hand them over, he tends to drop the ball and then spit misery and vitriol at us. For example, he consented to letting me help him find jobs to apply to and after I spent a week finding 100-plus eligible jobs tailor-fit to his resume, he applied to three and gave up, citing the job market is too hard and nothing matters. I gave him an easy lay-up recommendation for a job at the company I work for and he was “too nervous” and never applied.

We have begged for (and been willing to pay for!) therapy, rehab, medication—anything that can help him feel stable and sane. He rejects all of it and then sinks lower. He’s wrapped deeply in our friend group, so if we wrote him off, we would still hear from him and be in the same virtual room with him every day! I know this is selfish, but I feel miserable watching him sink. I don’t know how to help anymore and my compassion is starting to hiccup now that he’s moved to actively rejecting any help we try to give (or wasting the money we give—we aren’t rich). How can we help? Should we extricate ourselves? Should I contact someone on his behalf? Normally I would live and let live, but he is no longer functioning (dead mice in the house! Maggots! Not eating for days in order to buy more vodka!) and I’m genuinely scared for his health and safety.

—We Love You, Please Stop

Dear Please Stop,

I shared this letter with Slate readers and asked for help because I really felt for you and desperately hoped to be able to provide you with advice other than, “Yes, extricate yourselves. Now!” Sadly, there were no alternatives in the inbox. And I mean none. I’m sharing a pretty random selection of responses below, because they were actually all very similar. The key words were: “Stop,” “Enabling” and “Al-Anon,” and they were repeated over and over by about 35 different people:

Cut Your Losses: I know this might be hard to see written down, but you NEED to stop rescuing/enabling your friend. I get that you care for him, I really do, but he doesn’t even seem to be in a position where he can care for himself. And why does he need to? You’re always there to rescue him. Stop rescuing him and prioritize your needs. What (if anything) are you two getting out of this relationship? He doesn’t even seem to care about it enough to maintain anything. He’s burning the bridges of your relationships with other people (in-laws, etc.) and he doesn’t even have bridges left of his own. You gave him three months’ notice (good for you!) but you need to stick with it and give him the numbers of the local substance abuse treatment, community mental health center, and whatever other social supports might be in his area and let him know the door to your home is always open when he’s ready to walk through it. (And I would make that offer conditional on him being sober and actively job searching).
Elaine: Full stop. This person is an alcoholic. You are continuing to enable this behavior. You are not bailing this person out. You are actively preventing this person from learning that actions have consequences. This is codependent enabling. It makes you feel better in the moment but does NOTHING productive to help the raging alcoholic. No consequences. No pain for them. But pain for everyone associated. Let go. You are not letting him find his bottom. The longer this goes on, the deeper he will sink when he finally is cut off. If you really want to help him, go to an Al-Anon, CODA, or ACA meeting and learn about codependency, boundaries, enabling, and dysfunctional families. You are NOT HELPING HIM. You are enabling his destruction. Full stop. Signed: an alcoholic/drug addict 13 years sober and a 59-year-old daughter of an enabled abusive alcoholic.
Sage: The poster needs to go to some Al-Anon meetings for themself. Al-Anon helps families and loved ones of addicts learn how to cope with the addict. They have already gone above and beyond what most people would do and yet they still are expecting the addict to “do better.” Addiction is a DISEASE and addicts cannot always “do better” until ALL the people “helping” them learn that they are in fact NOT helping, but ENABLING the person to continue in their addiction. All that rescuing someone time after time after time does is make your bank account smaller and your frustration greater. They WILL have to CUT HIM OFF completely and go no contact. At some point, he will either come to grips with the truth of his addiction and SEEK HELP HIMSELF, or he will drink himself to death. I had to cut my own mother out of my life when her alcoholism endangered my children because she drove drunk with my kids in the car one time. It isn’t easy to watch someone you love continue in their addiction, and it is not helpful to continue to rescue them. Once he gets the message that his friends and family are not going to support his addiction anymore, he will probably fade away from that friend/family group and try to find others who will take on the task of footing his bills. He will find someone else to manipulate who feels sorry for him and will give him money or provide him with drink. At some point, they reach “rock bottom.” The thing is EVERY addict’s “rock bottom” is different. Nobody can know when any particular addict will hit that and decide that they must change or they will die that way. I am sorry to be so blunt and negative, but I have lived through this and there is no way to save them until he wants to save himself… Unfortunately, some addicts NEVER desire to save themselves and that is also something the LW needs to understand. Al-Anon will give them the tools and the knowledge to REMOVE themself from the equation or the ability to disengage to where the addict’s behavior no longer affects their life. It hurts. A LOT. But unless they stop, he is not going to change because what they are doing is enabling his addiction by being his rescuers. This is their portion of his illness. Until they disengage and stop providing help, they will be codependents in his addiction. Good luck.
Cori M.: This will sound harsh because it IS harsh: For the love of dog, STOP GIVING HIM MONEY. He will continue using it to buy booze. He doesn’t want to stop drinking. He doesn’t want a job. He doesn’t care about a roof over his head. He doesn’t seem to care about a friendship with you, other than your enabling his drinking. You say he’s your best friend, but what kind of friendship are you getting from him? Please go to Al-Anon. You do not need to set yourself on fire to keep someone else warm.
Sober LMFT: As a licensed mental health professional with 25 years of sobriety, these folks need to stop enabling their friend’s behavior. If they want to help their friend, going to Al-anon meetings is a good place to start so they can get support on how to set healthy boundaries. Yes, he is struggling, but giving him money and helping him find a job is not the help he needs. There is help available when he is ready to accept that help (AA meetings are one example). Sometimes the most loving thing we can do for an alcoholic is to let them “hit their bottom” and experience the consequences of their actions. Pain is a powerful teacher—don’t rob him of the opportunity to learn from it.
Sober Today By Grace Alone: I am so sorry you are on the sidelines of this train wreck. All your good intentions cannot save your friend from himself or detour him from the path of self-destruction he is on. Most recovering addicts and loved ones of addicts will recommend Al-Anon or its faith-based counterpart Celebrate Recovery. It works. Attending a meeting will be your next best first step. You will find others who made the same journey you are currently facing. If you are truly seeking advice, the next best step is to STOP. Stop helping. Stop providing support. Stop being disappointed in his choice to be an addict. In my personal experience, I only sought recovery when I “hit bottom” and had to face what my life had become because of my addiction. Every time you send him support, you are funding his drinking. You are not saving him. He is not accepting it as you intend it to be a way out. You are contributing to his demise. It is truly a horrible thing to watch someone in so much anguish, but he is the only one who can intercept the otherwise inevitable consequences. No one I have ever met in my 29 years, 6 months, and 3 days of sobriety has ever stopped drinking any other way.
Pat H: This is a difficult situation all around, no doubt about it. To be in the position that you are in can feel so helpless. What you are doing in the name of compassion is enabling your friend, and while it may feel productive to find resources, jobs, and shelter for him, you are not doing him any favors. No amount of begging, pleading, or wishing will help your friend. Only he can determine whether or not he is ready to accept help and work to make changes in his life. You don’t have to give up on him, you can assure him that you will continue to support him emotionally, but the money, the job searching, the arranging lodging should stop right away. Perhaps take some time to consider why you’re so invested in saving him and why you think it is your responsibility to do so. You can love someone and want the best for them without letting it consume you. And certainly, this is all far easier said than done. Hopefully, your friend finds his way to help, and you all find your way to healing.

Again, I was really hoping to offer you a less “tough love”-inspired way forward because I know you’re thinking: “What if we stop helping him and things get even worse and we have to watch him sink lower and lower?” I can only imagine how scary that is. But these messages from professionals, people who have been in your shoes, and people who have dealt with addiction themselves clarified something for me: Things are going to get worse and you’re going to watch your friend sink even if you do keep helping him. It’s hard to accept (and that’s why everyone urges you to attend some twelve-step meetings) but you actually, really and truly, cannot fix his life. So take some of the energy you’ve been putting toward that effort and redirect it to taking back your own. You deserve it.

Dear Thelma,

I am writing to seek your advice on a delicate matter that has been weighing heavily on my mind.

Earlier this year, my adult child and their partner decided to part ways. This separation has created a noticeable awkwardness between our families, as we had grown quite close over the years. We frequently enjoyed meals together and went on outings, and also exchanged gifts on special occasions, thus forming a bond that extended beyond our children’s relationship.

my dear friend essay

Now that they have separated, I am unsure how to proceed. Should the parents on both sides continue to maintain our previous level of interaction, or would it be more appropriate to distance ourselves to avoid any discomfort? On one hand, I value the friendship and connection we have built. On the other hand, I don't want to cause any additional strain or awkwardness for either family or our children.

I am at a loss as to how to navigate this situation. How can we move forward in a way that respects the feelings of everyone involved?

Friends or not?

Thanks for writing in on this very interesting issue. The short answer is that there is no firm etiquette.

Ideally, the separation is amicable for your child and your relationships with extended connections stay warm and fresh. However, this is seldom the case.

Our emotions at the ending of a long-term relationship mirrors our response to grief at a death. Breakups therefore have phases. We go through cycles of shock, denial, hoping for reconciliation, sadness, and anger. Once that ends, we move on and find peace again.

If a breakup is mutual and there is no cheating, lying, or betrayal, we tend to try to remain friends. That works until there is friction and the couple hit the anger phase.

Typically, these strains are echoed in the family. For example, if your child and their partner wrangle over who gets the sofa or how to share the pension investment, you will feel that disagreement.

Friends and family can promise not to take sides, but that ideal can be awfully hard to maintain in real life. If your friends were to criticise your child, for example, you will find it hard not to defend your offspring.

Breakups are traumatic. For some, the difficult emotions kill good feelings permanently. For others, time heals and the people in the relationship return to their friendship.

There’s no way to tell what will happen, so this won’t be easy. Your goal is to try and salvage your friendships. You think those connections are independent from the family ties that come from the relationship that is now breaking up.

I think the best way forward is to speak to your child. They will be upset, grieving and coping with a lot of change. As a parent, put them first for now.

Say, “I like your ex’s family, but you come first. How do you feel we should move forward?”

Then listen.

If your child tells you to go ahead and do as you please, it may still not mean the other family will. Their own child may ask them to take a step back. Again, explain your wishes clearly and succinctly, and then listen.

Should everyone want to keep talking, do so, but stay away from discussing the breakup. No good can come from that.

If your child or the other family say they need a break, be gracious about it. Step back and let them work through it.

Once the breakup is over, you can send a note of friendship. Holidays are a good time for that. A Christmas, Chinese New Year or Ramadan card plus an invitation to a party is a nice light way to rekindle a friendship.

So, go with the flow, and with a little luck you won’t lose your happy connections. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Dear Annie: Is it right that I need to pay for my son’s meals when he visits his friend?

Annie Lane points out to today's reader that they might not know if money is tight and they should just send money with their son when he visits a friend's house instead of expecting the hosting parents to pay. Getty Images

  • Dear Annie, Annie Lane

Dear Annie: My 12-year-old son goes over to his friend’s house now and then. His friend lives in a small town that is walking distance to ice cream shops, markets and delis. Whenever my son visits, his friend’s mom will ask me to send him with cash for lunch or dinner or Venmo her money.

Whenever we have his friends over, we provide the food for them, as it’s the right thing to do.

I feel that, because they live in town, they should either pay for my son if they’re going to walk and pick something up or make something at home like I do.

Am I wrong for feeling this way? -- Not Willing to Send Money

Dear Not Willing: It’s not the most polite thing to do – to “charge” someone you’re hosting, but if your son weren’t over at his friend’s house, you would be paying for his meals anyway. You also don’t know what their financial situation is; if money is tight, then the alternative would be to not invite your son over at all. Either feed your son before he goes, or send him with cash.

Either she starts taking steps in the right direction to iron out her life – getting a job or enrolling in school, becoming a licensed driver – in your home, or she finds a home of her own.
