Introduction:

Teachers are the ones who play a very vital role in shaping our future. From the Pre-Kinder Garden to your Post-Doctoral fellowships, they teach, impart knowledge, share ethical values, and imbibe morality, thereby shaping our personality as a strong one.

My Teacher:

Throughout our lives, we will be having many kith and kins who will hold a special place in our hearts. For me, one such person is my teacher. All of us, for sure, will definitely agree to the fact that the kinship between us and our kinder garden teachers could not be well-defined. I like my nursery teacher, so much. There is something very magical about her. Maybe, she was the first teacher in my life or maybe, she was very sweet in talking to all of us, I am unable to portray why she is always my favourite. I relied on her blindly.

Unforgettable Memories:

I have some cherished memories with my teacher. Whenever I think of those memories, it makes me blissful. On the last day of my nursery school, I started crying at the very thought of leaving her and having a new teacher. I had fallen sick due to crying for hours together. I skipped my food. My parents were not able to do anything. They called for her to make me feel better. My teacher travelled a few miles across the city and reached the hospital. She, then, said that she would never forget any of her students and asked me to write to her. I started writing to her every week from then on and she replied to every letter of mine. Till date, I look at my teacher as my second mother and she guides me in all my difficult situations.

Conclusion:

Having a good teacher who can share an amalgamated relationship with the students is a boon. A good teacher should be a good mentor, a philosopher, a guide, a friend and above all a surrogate parent to the children. I am lucky that I had gotten one in my lifetime.

My favorite subject is English and my most favorite teacher is Chitra Ma’am. She teaches us English. She likes me a lot and appreciates my hard work. She joined our school one year ago. Before that, I was not so good at English. But after attending her classes, we have all become much better at this subject.

I like her for many reasons. First of all, she teaches the lessons in a very interesting way. Even when we have doubts or questions, she never gets upset with us. Her best quality is her loving nature. She would come to school daily without missing a day.

Her dressing sense is nice. She wears simple salwar suits. She always speaks to her students softly and respectfully. I eagerly wait for her class and do my English homework on time. Chitra Ma’am puts a lot of effort in explaining every chapter.

There are many activities given at the end of every lesson and she makes us participate in all of them. Not only that, but she also encourages us to take part in drama and poem competitions. Since her first day, she made a rule for us.

All of us has to speak in English during the English period. Every student tries to talk in English even if the sentence sounds improper. She has taught us to never laugh at each other’s mistakes. This has improved our spoken English in a great way. Now, we are able to talk in English with more confidence.

Another great quality of hers is that she treats every child equally. After explaining the lesson to us, she asks each one of us different questions about the chapter. Sometimes, we also love to talk about our personal lives, like what do we like about our lives, how our parents work hard for us, and things like that.

When we get confused or need an emotional support, she is the best person to talk to. Her advice and suggestions are always positive. Last month, on teacher’s day, all the students wished her and brought presents for her. We also sang a song to her.

I made a beautiful greeting card for her and a red rose with it. She accepted it with a smile and thanked us for everything. I feel grateful to have such a gentle and great teacher in my life who supports me in every way.

In school, you tend to interact with a lot of people who can either impact your life positively or negatively. A teacher is one neutral person who will manage to strike a balance between the positive and the negative. Teachers have a huge responsibility that we students may not understand. All in all our teachers try their best to provide an education, guidance and discipline despite the challenges we might impose on them. The life of a student is entirely dependent on a teacher because most of their time is spent in school rather than with parents that is why teachers play a major role in shaping the lives of young children through school.

Who Is my favourite Teacher?

I have several teachers now that I am in high school but there is only one whom I can relate to as “the teacher” because of the impact he has made in my life. The teacher is male, of Indian origin and has a funny accent when he speaks. He is married and has three children. Actually, one of his children is my age and I know him through tennis practice because he comes to train with us sometimes. I like him because his sense of humor gives a good learning experience for the students. He is a math teacher and he is very good at what he does. Students tend to make fun of him because of his accent but he make fun of it himself, which gets even funnier. This teacher has been a great mentor to me and other student ever since we joined high school. I met him on a personal level one day after class when I needed clarification on a topic I had not quite understood. The teacher was kind to me and guided me through it. Since then, he took his own initiative to do follow-ups on me and I became really good in math due to his efforts.

Coincidentally, he also coaches my tennis team and we meet out on the field. We have won several awards as a tennis team under him. I feel connected to the teacher through his mentorship and he has become like a school parent to me because whenever I have an issue, he is free to help me out.

How the teacher has impacted my life in school .

Mentorship goes along way depending on the approach used. When I first joined high school, I did not have much confidence in myself. This teacher mentored me and made me believe in myself. The good thing is the attention he gives t is students because most of the times, he follows up on the performances and ensures that he does everything he can to help students improve academically. He has also been a role model to me through his way of doing things. He is dedicated to his work and he is an achiever. Through following his footsteps, I have been able to dedicate myself into studies and sports, which has helped me to achieve my goals.

In conclusion, good teachers are hard to find but when you find one, make the most out of them.

The word “teacher” depicts a person that teaches. English dictionary defines teacher as “a person who teaches, especially one employed in a school”. A more recent definition of teacher in the linguistics field is “a tutor that interacts with the learners in order to facilitate good learning”.

Types of Teachers

Old method teachers: the teachers found under this method adopt the rigid mode of impartation of knowledge. They control the class the way a king would rule over his subjects. Old method teachers are less concerned about the welfare of their learners, they are syllabus-oriented.

New method teachers: the tutors under this model are student-oriented. They are more concerned about their learners and their various levels of understanding. They accept and promote contributions in class unlike the old method teachers. New method teachers encourage the inquisitiveness of their students.

Attributes of a Teacher:

A standard teacher has all or most of the various characters imbedded in them:

  • Compassionate
  • Open-minded
  • A good counselor
  • Friendly and most importantly
  • Approachable.

Attributes of My Favorite Teacher:

Personally, I see my teacher as a mini-god because he leaves his mark on me. He influences my life in ways that enables me affect changes wherever I find myself.

He is a perfect example of the new model teachers. Basically, he is student-oriented. In the classroom, he employs the Eclectic mode of teaching (this is the combination of all the modes of teaching “discussion mode, play way mode, role play mode, question mode” so as to facilitate standard learning).

He comes into the classroom; starts the lecture with a recap of what was discussed in the previous class, gives room for the students to ask questions that arose from the last class, answers them and then starts a new topic.

To start a new topic, he starts with a mind-capturing introduction that attracts the attention of all students. Once he is through with introducing the topic, he gauges our reaction in order for him to know if his students are on the same page with him or left behind.

Then, he moves on to the discussion mode of teaching, whereby he throws questions to his students and accommodates both relevant and irrelevant answers, at the end of this model, he sieves through the answers provided, pick the relevant ones and add his own iota to it, he also always applaud the courage of all who answers his questions.

He moves either into the role play method or the play way method, here he selects students to either act out the lessons from the day’s topic or summarizes what he has taught for the day. The use of this particular mode enlightens the students more on the topic being discussed.

Finally, he moves over to the questions and revision mode, where he personally go through all he has taught over the course of the period. During this mode, he entertains questions from students on their personal areas of difficulties. Occasionally, he gives assignments to back up his teachings.

During his teachings, he pays close attention to the expression, mood, sitting posture and carriage of his students. This tells him when his students are lost, sad, worried, hungry, sick, away in dream land or simply tired.

Once he is done processing the information gotten from our faces, he either finds a way of brightening the mood of his students, bringing them back from the dream world, or ending his class without breaking his stride or alerting the whole population of students to what is currently going on.

It is only normal for a human being to reflect his mood whenever he is talking or interacting, but my teacher hardly ever allow his bad, horrible moods interfere with his teachings.

Outside the classroom, my teacher is approachable, fatherly, and jovial. He entertains all and no one is excluded from his open arms, smiles and affections.

He is a good counselor who is always ready to help me out of my tight corners. He gives twenty first century advises in a fatherly way.

Although, due to my teachers lenient ways with students, some students tend to be lazy, disrespectful, stubborn or rude. He has a way of being firm, maintaining class control while teaching.

In conclusion, my teacher has all the attributes and more of a new method teachers. He is capable of combining all modes of teaching, he is compassionate, passionate, and friendly. From my interactions with him, I can confidently say that he is one of the best teachers around.

My Teachers, My Role Models

During my formative years, I have come across many teachers who have influenced my life for the better. Having being studies in a convent school, I got to face a much-disciplined environment during my school years. The teachers, although were very polite in their behaviour, at the same time ensuring that we all followed a disciplined life. We were taught how to inculcate these values in our daily life so as to be better human beings when we grow up and face the world. Although all the teachers were good, there is one teacher whose teachings I just cannot forget. She is Ms Kirti Bhushan. Her teachings have been so powerful and impactful that I can still feel them during my day to day decisions even today.

My Best Teacher

Ms Kirti was my class educator as well and took participation in the daily activities with us as well. She was a strict instructor anyway extremely amusing and mind in nature. At the same time, she was extremely restrained and dependable. She did her work perfectly with the class at a perfect time without getting late. I liked her, particularly as she attempted simple approaches to show us beneficial things. We made the most of her class. She taught us English subject as well. She even made us giggle by telling heaps of jokes in the middle of when she taught. She likewise managed us exceptionally well amid any school or between school rivalry of the move, sports, scholastic, and so on. She instructed us to share things in class among our associates, for example, lunch or other required things.

Her Background

She was from Varanasi and completed her initial studies there itself. She took her higher education degrees from the Banaras Hindu University. She was extremely friendly and kind in nature. She realized well about how to deal with little youngsters in the class. Her one of a kind style of educating is perhaps what I mostly recall her for. I even meet her at times at whatever point I have to explain some intense inquiries of my day to day issues, she advises me so easily and comfortably. She looks extremely savvy with shimmer eyes and fair hair.

She generally smiled when she entered the classroom and first got some information about our prosperity. She additionally helped us in the games at whatever point our games instructor was missing. She had a smiling face even during the strict environment during the examination times. She constantly rebuffed to the students who were with fragmented home works. She was acclaimed for making loads of fun amid the class time and ensure there was a positive ambience all around.

She was an instructor with great aptitudes of educating, well-disposed nature, great comical inclination, understanding and nice. I am proud to be one of her favourite students, as she always said good things about me to other teachers. At times she gave us chocolates on doing great in the class tests and exams. She never gave us heaps of assignments at home. She was exceptionally eager and constantly spurred us for doing our best in the examination.

Teacher’s In Today’s Scenario

Today the general population are changing and their reasoning and advancement thoughts are more against nature. Presently for the world, a teacher is only a teacher. Various offices and departments only tend to remember them on teachers day during various events and usually do not remember them otherwise. Individuals also share few posts via web-based networking media with respect to teachers and after that just forget them. Individuals overlook a bigger number of things that they are gaining from teachers. Schools and students also praise the teacher’s day event and value the endeavours teachers are doing. This is incredible if individuals ought to pursue the exercises of teachers also.

The genuine present for teachers is when students turn into a decent individual, effective in their vocation and business. Not all teacher are great in instructing and comparatively, not all students resemble “Shishya and Guru” particularly in the advanced period. Inspirational thank you letters to teachers to show appreciation

Keeping order in classrooms full of thriving young people doesn’t leave much time to truly reflect on our impact on their minds beyond the knowledge we’re trying to impart.

It’s often not what we teach in the classrooms, but in our interactions with students, we can accomplish the most. A brief conversation, compliment, or smile after class can mean a lot to a student. These moments can stay with young people and shape their lives long after we have moved on to the next pupil or the next class.

Thank you letters to teachers to show appreciation

Here’s sincere gratitude to teachers, those who guide us through some of the most chaotic times of our lives. We want to remind you how much of an impact you can have, not just on each student you teach, but as a professional and a community long after classes.

Examples of thank you letters to teachers

Enjoy this collection of thank you notes from students to teachers who went on to improve the course of their lives.

When we first met in your English class, I thought I would hate you forever. I hated how you made sure I was wearing my school uniform correctly and how you told me to stand up straight before answering a question in class. I wondered what clothes or posture had to do with language arts. Well, the dignity and discipline you instilled in me through what I thought was nitpicking about clothing, posture, and grammar helped turn me into the successful individual I am today.

What I really couldn’t stand were your high expectations. You wouldn’t accept anything unless it were the best we could do or the best you thought we could do — and sometimes that was more than I thought I could do. At the very least, what you thought was my best was usually more work than I wanted to do — not just for class, but for anything I did.

We argued so many times, especially at the beginning of the year. I can’t remember how often you kept me in during lunch. I thought it was a punishment, but now I realize you were making sure I had time to cool down when things got particularly heated. I would raise my voice and burst into tears, and I know I even made threats a few times. But you didn’t lose your temper, and you might have been the only adult in my life who never did.

You listened to me, no matter how loud I got, because you knew I needed to be heard. You were patient with me, even if I didn’t care. And you gave me second chances no matter how many times I screwed up.

When I think about your English class today, I may not remember what you taught us about Beowulf, but I do remember what you taught me about myself. What I can now recognize as your faith in my abilities showed me my true value beyond what I or anyone else believed. You showed me that I could be whatever I wanted, which was the most important lesson I’ve ever learned.

— A student.

To my teacher:

Looking back on my life, I know it would have been drastically different if I hadn’t gotten you as my science teacher in grade 7. I hope it wouldn’t have been bad, but I know how much I could have missed out on, and I’m eternally grateful I didn’t. You opened my eyes to what I could accomplish and become in ways that I would never have thought possible without you. I was a kid from a small town, and it was all I knew. I could have been contented with that, but you made me want to see what lay beyond the fields I knew, and for that, I am forever grateful.

I don’t remember what the lesson was about. Maybe it was meant to be about technology, space exploration, or the environment, but it didn’t end up that way. You told us about what the future had looked like when you were our age, about your hopes and dreams for what humanity could become and what you could have been. You talked to us about what you’d accomplished and what you regretted. I still remember what you told us about your life and how you’d gotten there. Nobody had shown us how to connect the dots before, from a wide-eyed kid to someone who could make a difference. That’s when I realized how much was possible.

I had so many dreams, and I don’t think I could have accomplished any of them without your example. You changed the way I thought about life and learning. I know I can do anything with enough dedication and hard work.

Nick (Graduated)

My former teacher,

I’m writing to you as a former student and a friend. Too often, we climb through life without a look back to express our connection with others and our gratitude for their presence in our lives. You engage, inspire, and empower your students daily, and I wanted you to know that we notice how much you care.

You don’t just try to figure out how to get information into their heads. You care about your students as people. Your class was always an environment where I was eager to express myself! You made me feel like you cared about what I had to say and valued my strengths and unique abilities instead of just focusing on how you could erase my weaknesses. You were excited to hear what I had to say, and I loved it when you said you learned something new from me or you’d tell me I asked a question that made you think.

Thank you for your time, your patience, and your realness. Thank you for encouraging me, supporting me, and caring about me. Thank you for seeing me as a partner in education, as someone who can teach others and learn. Thank you for inspiring me to learn and to help others the way you have.

With gratitude,

Your friend (Graduated)

Tailor your thank you message to reflect your personal experiences with the teacher. Include specific instances where their guidance, support, or teaching methods have had a positive impact on you.

How to Write a Thank You Note for Teachers

thank you messages for teacher flower note mood image

Thank you notes for teachers can be super simple. A hand-written letter or a short note on a store-bought card is enough to make any teacher's day. We even have some Printable Teacher Appreciation Cards that you can print at home.

Or you might like to hand-make a card. You can use simple cardboard and paper to create a very simple card with a personal touch. If you like, you could hand-draw a picture or create a unique piece of art. Preschool teachers and art teachers particularly appreciate the creativity of their students.

The main thing is that you have put the time into showing your gratitude. A personalized note will let your teacher know how much you appreciate them.. Many teachers (myself included) will treasure the special thank-you notes that they receive from their students for years to come.

While it's not essential, you may like to include a gift to show appreciation to your teacher. My family almost always sends a gift along with the message, since we know how hard the job is. Whether it’s for Christmas, Teacher Appreciation Day, or the end of the semester, we love gifts like a hand-drawn picture, snacks the teacher loves to eat, something practical for their class like fun pens, or a gift card to the local coffee shop.

The best teachers make such a huge difference in our lives, and sending them a note (and a gift!) shows them how much you appreciate them.

Impact of Teachers on a Student’s Life

Growing up, our parents and teachers are the first ones to impact our lives significantly. In fact, in the younger years, students have complete faith in their teachers and they listen to their teachers more than their parents. This shows the significance and impact of a teacher .

message to your teacher essay

When we become older and enter college, teachers become our friends. Some even become our role models. They inspire us to do great things in life. We learn how to be selfless by teachers. Teachers unknowingly also teach very important lessons to a student.

For instance, when a student gets hurt in school, the teacher rushes them to the infirmary for first aid. This makes a student feel secure and that they know a teacher plays the role of a parent in school.

In other words, a teacher does not merely stick to the role of a teacher. They adapt into various roles as and when the need arises. They become our friends when we are sad, they care for us like our parents when we are hurt. Thus, we see how great a teacher impacts a student’s life and shapes it.

Anyone who says “Teachers have it easy because they get summers off” has never stood in front of more than a dozen students and tried to help them learn. Aside from the fact that the idea of teachers usually getting summers off is essentially a myth, everyone should understand that teaching is one of the most difficult and important professions in the world.

Jump ahead to these sections:

Why write a thank you letter to a teacher, how to write a thank you letter to a teacher: 4 steps, thank you letter to teacher examples.

Odds are good you’ve had a teacher who helped you become a better, or at least smarter, person. Maybe you want to express your feelings by writing a thank you letter to that teacher.

This guide will help. It offers tips and examples to ensure your thank you letter to a teacher makes the right impression.

Knowing why you’re writing a thank you letter to a teacher is just as important as writing the actual letter itself. Teachers impact each individual student in various ways. If you clearly define why you feel the urge to write this letter, you’re far more likely to write a strong one.

Potential reasons include:

  • Teachers inspire us to pursue our dreams . They can spark our passions. In some instances, they can even help us cope with personal issues. That said, it’s important to remember that some teachers also help us in very practical ways. For instance, maybe a college professor helped you network in your industry, giving you an early career boost. They deserve credit for that.
  • Teachers eventually retire . You don’t need to wait until a former teacher retires before sending them a thank you letter. Any time is a good time to let an educator know you appreciate them. That’s why thank you letters to teachers make smart teacher retirement gifts . They let teachers know their hard work over the years changed lives.
  • They helped you when you were headed down the wrong path . That’s a good reason to write a thank you letter to a teacher. Most educators want their students to like them. Those who decide that helping their students grow and learn is more important than being liked are no exception.

Your reason for writing a thank you letter to a teacher will influence your process to some degree. That said, these general steps usually apply:

List specific experiences

Teachers always enjoy receiving thank you notes from former students. It’s unlikely the teacher you’re contacting won’t appreciate receiving a thank you letter.

That said, they’ll appreciate it even more if it’s specific. Writing a thank you letter for a teacher that tells them they were an “inspiration” or a “great motivator” is a kind gesture. It’s even kinder, though, to include specific memories or details that illustrate precisely how that teacher inspired or motivated you. This shows you took the time to reflect on your experiences in their class before writing the letter. It also shows their influence was so significant that you still remember those specific experiences.

Make a list of these details before writing your letter. When it comes time to actually draft it, decide which makes the most sense to include. Reach out to former classmates if you think they’ll remember such details too.

Assess your skills

We’re not all strong writers. Some people can effectively communicate how they feel through written language. Some can’t. No one is a “bad person” if writing just isn’t one of their talents.

Of course, when writing a thank you letter to a teacher, your goal is to communicate your feelings in words. Be honest with yourself if that’s a task you struggle with.

It’s entirely fine to write a thank you letter for a teacher that says something along the lines of, “You know I was never great with words, but I think these thank you quotes from some of the poets we learned about in your class will let you know why you were one of the best teachers I ever had.”

Write a draft

Sending the first draft is one of the most common mistakes people make when sending any type of thank you letter. Yes, your first draft may be perfect. Regardless, you shouldn’t merely assume. You still need to reread it, and perhaps ask friends and family members to read it as well, before sending it.

A first draft often gives you the chance to get your thoughts and feelings out. You don’t need to know everything you want to say when writing a thank you letter for a teacher, even if you’ve done some planning first. You might still need to pen a first draft that involves writing out everything that comes to mind. Once you’ve done that, you can revisit it, seeing if there are ways to make it more organized or clear.

Choose your medium

The content of your thank you letter to a teacher isn’t the only important aspect of the message. You should also consider how your medium might strike them.

For instance, some teachers are perfectly happy receiving email thank you notes. However, other teachers are happier receiving “snail mail” letters on gorgeous stationery. Think about what your teacher would like before sending the letter.

You don’t need to have been a teacher’s student to write a thank you letter for a teacher. Educators also appreciate receiving thank-you notes from parents and colleagues. These examples of thank you letters to a teacher will cover those types of messages. They’ll help you write a strong letter no matter what your relationship with a teacher may be.

Teacher thank you letter from a student

Mr. Norman,

Hi, it’s Tom, from your 2004 history class. It’s no secret we didn’t always get along when I was in your class. By now it’s also no secret you only ever had my best interests at heart. Because of your hard work, I’ve learned that the struggles of the past are present in the future.

None of that would have happened without you. I’m sorry for not understanding you were only trying to help me when I was your student, but I’m not sorry for any of the experiences you gave me.

Teacher thank you letter from a parent

Dear Mrs. Johnson:

My child has had some good teachers over the years, as well as some bad ones. You were one of the few truly amazing ones.

The changes we saw in Doug throughout the time he was your student are indescribable, and they continue to benefit from your hard work to this day. Thanks for making my job so much easier!

Teacher thank you letter from a colleague

We both know how challenging this career can be. However, being a teacher is easier if you have support from your colleagues. I was lucky enough to get that support from you. Thank you for helping me overcome the difficulties we all face. Enjoy retirement. You’ve earned it!

Thank you letter to a professor

Dear Professor Doherty,

I want to thank you for teaching what was easily my favorite course in college. Your passion for the subject made me far more confident in my choice of career. The fact that you were so responsive when I needed assistance and worked with me during your office hours when you could have been using that time to grade papers or plan lessons is something I will always deeply appreciate.

Naturally, I also deeply appreciate the way you helped me with networking when I was preparing for graduation. I recently landed a job at a very prestigious firm, and while I’m proud of myself and my accomplishments (thanks, again, to the confidence you instilled in me), I strongly believe your influence played a big role in helping me secure this position. Thank you so much for caring about your students and helping us thrive even after we left your class.

That’s an important point, and it’s one of the reasons I wrote this letter. Before taking your class, I didn’t fully understand just how greatly a professor can impact the course of someone’s life. You made me realize that when a professor takes their job as seriously as you, they can truly help their students achieve their dreams.

Thank you letter to a teacher during COVID

Dear Mrs. Higgins,

Adapting to remote learning last year was tough on me and a lot of the other students. I think that made us forget that it also must have been very difficult for you. Switching to a completely new style of teaching while also coping with all the stresses of the pandemic must have been a challenge.

I just want you to know that while I’m sure that situation was stressful and frustrating for you, it never once seemed as though you took out your frustrations on your students. You were always patient with us as we adjusted to our new learning environment.

You also went the extra mile to ensure your lessons were as thorough and interesting as possible. I’m sure you know even better than I do that a remote learning lesson can be very different from an in-person lesson. I don’t know much about teaching, but I do know it was clear (at least to me) that you made some very intentional changes to the way you taught to make sure everyone was learning the material. Not every teacher would put in that much effort during a scary time, and I’m very thankful that you did.

Thank you letter to a teacher during Teacher Appreciation Week

Dear Mr. Johnson,

Hey! I know it’s been a few years since I was your student, but I randomly saw online that this week is Teacher Appreciation Week.

That got me thinking about the important teachers in my life. I can’t honestly say that I believe every teacher I ever had positively influenced my life, but I can say that the influence of the good teachers far outweighed the influence of the weaker ones in the long run. At least, that’s been my experience.

You were the best teacher I ever had. I don’t think I’m telling you anything you don’t know that the opinion of the student body regarding your teaching methods was split. Some students thought you were too strict and held us to unreasonably high standards.

Others deeply appreciated the way you motivated us to achieve our true potential. Sometimes, being a good teacher must be like being a good coach. The strongest coaches demand the best from the players on their teams because they know their players are capable of great achievements. You held us to such high standards because you had enough respect for us to know we were able to rise to great heights if we applied ourselves. That has impacted my life in far more ways than I can count.

Thank you letter to a teacher for the end of the school year

Dear Mrs. Brandt,

Happy End of the School Year! After dealing with students who weren’t always the most well-behaved group, I bet you’re looking forward to some well-deserved time off.

I’m usually happy when the school year ends. I definitely don’t hate school, but I obviously don’t mind not having to wake up early every morning to head to school when I’d rather sleep in or just enjoy my free time.

I’m still excited about the end of the school year (and yes, I do plan on spending part of the summer working on my novel, like you encouraged me to). Still, I get a little bit sad when I think about the fact that I won’t be your student next year. You worked hard to make your class as fun and interesting as possible while also making sure that we actually learned something from it. Not all teachers are good at making a class both enjoyable and genuinely valuable.

Again, you’ve definitely earned a break after this year. I hope you set aside as much time for yourself as you can. Thanks for a wonderful class and for caring so much about your students’ success!

Your teacher plays an important role in your life, and sometimes you want to show your appreciation by writing them a letter. While writing a good letter might seem hard, it's easy once you get started. Your teacher will be very happy that you took the time to share your thoughts. If you want to write your teacher a letter, start by greeting your teacher. Then think about what you want to say and write that down in the main part of the letter. Finally, close your letter and sign it.

message to your teacher essay

Starting Your Letter

Step 1 Choose a card or paper that you think your teacher will like.

  • Ask your parents or guardian if they have any cards you can use. They may also be willing to take you shopping for a new card.
  • You could also make a card for your teacher using either plain printer paper or construction paper. Your teacher will appreciate the effort you put into the card.

Step 2 Write your name and the date in the upper right corner.

  • Your teacher may cherish the letter for years to come. Including your name and the date will help them remember who wrote the letter.

Step 3 Start your letter with “Dear” followed by your teacher’s name.

  • Use the name your teacher prefers. If your teacher has asked you to call them by their first name, then it’s fine to use their first name in your letter. For example, if you call your teacher Coach Sue, then you can say, “Dear Coach Sue.”
  • Don’t start your letter with “hi” or “hey.” It’s too informal.

Step 4 Write a comma after your teacher’s name, then skip a line.

Writing the Body of Your Letter

Step 1 Start with 1 to 2 sentences telling your teacher what the letter is about.

  • Say, “I am writing this letter to tell you how happy I am to be in your class because you are the best teacher. This year has been hard, but you helped me do my best.”

Step 2 Give your teacher a few examples of what you appreciate about them.

  • You could write, “I appreciate the time you spent tutoring me after school. I felt like I would never understand multiplication, but you never let me give up. I’m so happy you’re my teacher!”
  • If you’re having trouble deciding what to say, grab a sheet of scratch paper and do some brainstorming . Write down reasons why you like your teacher, times that they’ve helped you, or what you’ve learned from them. Then pick a few of your favorite reasons and use those in your letter.

Step 3 Finish the body of your letter by thanking them again.

  • You could say, “Thank you for being a great teacher this year. I’m so happy I got to be in your class. I hope you have an incredible summer!”

Closing Your Letter

Step 1 Close and sign your letter.

  • Your closing should look something like this: “Sincerely, Brian.”

Step 2 Proofread your letter.

  • You may be able to fix some small mistakes. However, if you find yourself crossing out whole sentences, it’s probably a good idea to start fresh so your letter looks nice and neat.
  • White-out can be helpful in correcting mistakes.

Step 3 Put your letter...

  • The envelope should include your teacher’s address in the center and your own address in the top left corner.
  • If your handwriting is a little messy, it might be a good idea to ask an adult to write your teacher’s address for you so your letter doesn’t get lost in the mail.
  • Don’t forget to ask your parents or guardian for a stamp.

Student thanking teacher with note

Sometimes we forget the impact that we have as teachers. Schools are busy places, and teachers are busy people, so it’s not surprising that sometimes we miss out on chances to stop and reflect upon the influence that we wield over the young people in our care. Often, it’s the little conversations, the easily-forgotten asides, the friendly smile or brief compliment that mean the most to young people – and while we might forget them by the time it comes to write the next report or plan the next lesson, those words can remain with a young person for a very long time, shaping their personality and their thoughts.

So, thank you to all the teachers out there. To show you how powerful you are, as individuals and as a profession, here are a collection of ‘Thank-You’ letters written by students thanking the teacher who, in his or her inimitable way, changed their lives for the better.

I hated you when I first met you. I hated the fact that you made me stand up straight. I hated the way you made me wear my uniform right. I hated the way you made me speak correctly. Most of all, I hated the way that you wouldn’t accept my work unless it was the best I could do. And the best always seemed more effort than I was willing to put in.

We had lots of arguments, at the start. I remember being kept in at lunch a lot. And despite my yelling and threats – even tears once or twice – I remember you never lost your temper. You were always patient with me. You always took the time to listen to me, whenever I wanted to be heard.

I look back upon that time as so important in the development of the person that I am today. You taught me discipline. You taught me dignity. Much more than English, which was what you were supposedly teaching me, you taught me that I could achieve more than what I or other people thought that I was capable of. I could be a success, instead of a clown.

For that lesson, I owe you so much.

Thank you. A student (Year 11). ---

To my teacher:

If I had not had you as my teacher in Year 7, my life would be incredibly different. I’m not saying it would be bad – but you opened my eyes to what I could be, what I could do, in a way that I’ve never thought possible. You took a kid from Penrith and made him want to see the world and beyond.

I still remember one lesson where you told us about your hopes for your future when you were our age. I think you were meant to be talking about science, but it changed, and kind of became a life study. You told us about your regrets, and your successes, and for some reason, it all resonated with me, and I started to realize that anything really is possible.

You have changed my whole aspect on my learning, I wouldn't be where I am today without you. Your encouragement and persistence in my junior years has taught me that I am who I am, and to get to the top, it’s all down to me. I am capable, but it will take hard work and lots of dedication.

Thank you, Nick (Graduated). ---

Dear Friend:

An Inspirer. An Empower. An Engager. These three characteristics are just a short sample of the many you demonstrate with all of your students, including me, every single day.

Too often we progress through the ‘ropes of life,’ and do not invest the time to express our gratitude and authentic value for the support you so eagerly share for our growth, as not only students, but also as global citizens of society.

You make me feel authentically supported when you say, “Please let me know how I can be helpful” and genuinely mean it. Also, the excitement you express to co-learn with me rather than teach me, makes me feel like a partner in my learning experience, when it is so easy to feel like ‘a sponge that can only absorb.’ I know you have so much to share, but I love how you also openly articulate how much I have to share as well and how much you learn by engaging with me!

As an educator, your title can ensure a role of heightening my knowledge in academics. However, you see me not as one of the many students you have, but instead you value me for my uniqueness and strengths. You promote an environment where I feel like I am able to not only share my contribution, but also know it is actually considered and appreciated.

Thank you for being genuine. Thank you for seeing me as a partner in learning and sharing. Thank you for being you. Thank you for being one of the few great teachers out there. May you inspire others to achieve the greatness you have.

With gratitude, Clement Coulston (Graduated) ---

Thank you for your patience. Thank you for your time. Thank you for helping me with my homework. Thank you for setting me homework. Thank you for staying behind to help me, even when I know there are lots of other places you’d rather be. Thank you for keeping me company on camp when no one else was there. Thank you for not embarrassing me in front of my friends. Thank you for explaining things until I understand. Thank you for making me do my best. Thank you for being my teacher.

Sarah (Year 8)

Why write a gratitude note to your teacher, how to write a thank you note to a teacher, sample thank you notes for teachers, teacher appreciation quotes.

Teachers, despite working about 53 hours per week on average, get very little credit for all their hard work. They’re the ones who spent extra time in and out of the classroom to try and make a difference in each student’s life. They lesson plan, craft decorations and projects, and even use their own money to buy supplies for their classroom that otherwise wasn’t allocated to them. It’s thanks to teachers that we learn, develop, and find specific interests and passions.

For all these reasons (and more) it’s important to take the time to let teachers know just how much they’re appreciated. Saying “thank you” may seem minor, but sometimes it can make a big difference. By writing a heartfelt thank you card to your wonderful teacher you can let them know all their hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed. So if you’re ready to start, follow our guidelines for writing thank you notes for teachers below:

When you’re ready to start writing your thank you, make sure to find appropriate personal stationary . Simple cards that say “Thank you” or school themed stationary are perfect for your handwritten note. Or, you can type out a thank you card customized with a favorite photo of you and your fantastic teacher. Once you have your card, start with the steps listed below:

  • Address the teacher by their proper name. Make sure you’re certain whether the teacher prefers to go by “Mr.” “Mrs.” “Miss” or “Ms.” Use this title on both the envelope and inside the card.
  • Start off with a greeting. Some appropriate greeting might include “Dear,” “To,” or just the teacher’s name followed by a comma.
  • Describe what they did that you are thankful for, and how it helped you. Maybe it was simply spending extra time after class to help your child work through a math problem. Or maybe it was something much bigger, like helping you through a difficult time of your life or providing extra support throughout the school year. Whatever it was, tell them why it mattered to you.
  • Don’t forget to say the words “Thank you!” These two simple words can easily be forgotten in the midst of writing a long letter, but it’s important to have them on the page.

Thank You Teacher (Essay Sample)

Thank you teacher.

My life has been an experience of going through valleys and mountains. I have seen good times, along with bad ones too. I have died thousands of times from discouragement yet I am still alive. No amount of pages can fill what I need to write to narrate my experiences. In my journey of life, various groups have contributed directly and otherwise, to the course of my life. One of the most important, influential individuals in my life to this point is my teacher.

When I began school, I knew little, if anything. Kindergarten and elementary school to me proved to be the eye opener. As I proceeded to higher levels of education, beside me all along was my teacher and my parent, of course. There are times when my parent was away from my side, particularly when I was in school. At such times, I relied on no other individual but my teacher whose steadfast presence enabled me to face life at school confidently. The teacher took charge when instances of bullying arose. He became an authority in my life. In this regard, the teacher played the role of a protector and to some extent a parent as he saw me through a lot of difficult times. A young boy lacks the ability to defend himself from much older, violent youths. It is at such times that I recognized the role of a teacher in my school life. I can only say thank you teacher!

One of the key roles that my teacher played in my life was the enhancement of my social life. Apart from teaching me on academic matters, my teacher encouraged me to speak out in class and outside of class thus he enhanced my social skills. Presently, I interact well with family members, my colleagues as well as other members of the society largely due to my teachers’ and parents’ determination to see me prosper in all aspects of life. One of the common problems pointed out by employers in the current world is the un-employability of some fresh graduates due to professional inadequacies, one of which is as a result of poor social skills. For me, that is not a problem because my teacher worked hand in hand with my parents to see that I got the best in as far as professional growth was concerned.

Teachers make an indescribable role in terms of the sacrifice that they make. I spend as much time with my teachers as my parents and family members. The teacher spent much time at school, caring for my academic, psychological, spiritual as well as social wellbeing. In the process, he made much sacrifice. He spent the time he could be with his family with me in school. I cannot determine the exact amount of remuneration he received in exchange for his sacrifice but I do understand that few individuals can make the extent of sacrifice my teacher made. Furthermore, the teacher provided invaluable advice on what was best and worst in as far as the betterment of my life was concerned. Such advice entailed rewards and punishment both of which were delivered effectively, thus collectively made me a better person. Thank you teacher!

In conclusion, my teacher is a special person in my life. The time plus commitment that teachers made, in collaboration with my parents have molded me into a better individual. I have grown from an academic, social, spiritual and psychological viewpoint, and this has not just brought out a competent but also socially viable, useful member of the society. A teacher is a parent to me too, and just as I would say to my parent, I say to every teacher who has impacted my life: THANK YOU TEACHER!

Thank you for all you do for the cohort program. You’re amazing and it is much appreciated in a job where I’m sure you get little thanks. The program is life changing and you have helped shape and make it more valuable.

Schools, colleges and universities don’t achieve acclaim because of their historical buildings, heavy funding or celebrity alumni. They become great because they have outstanding faculty like you.

Thank you for all of your encouragement. You’re an amazing person, and I want you to know you made a meaningful impact on my life.

I know this course was probably not “required” of you to teach, with your already quite busy schedule including out-of-country travel and lots of campus advising. But, your insights will help those of us going on to teach to be mindful of the very important work this is in shaping student minds of the future. My thanks to you for going above and beyond!

Your diligence and direction have inspired my inner confidence to climb like a Tiger until I reach the pinnacle of my ambitions.

I want to specially thank you for making research and its approach very ‘simple’ to me. Your approach was excellent and made me appreciate research like never before. My dream is to be a professor and when I become one, I want to be like you. Thank you.

Your passion comes through in your teaching and seems to be a part of what makes you an effective professor. I’m glad I took this course with you. Thank you!

Then, you took me under your supervision; you showed me how research is done, and how a researcher should think. You gave me a fixed spot in your busy schedule and walked with me through every detail. For all the above I am grateful and ever indebted to you.

Thank you for all your hard work and patience last semester! I had heard you were teacher of the year one year and now I know why. I was honestly a bit intimidated by the course, but with your thorough teaching style, I was able to fully grasp everything you taught. Moreover, I appreciated how you focused on what is relevant and actually important. So thank you for being a fabulous professor—one who I will always think highly of! Cheers!

I had a fantastic time by taking your course. Thank you for your warm and welcoming nature, which invited us all to ask more questions.

Thank you for the wonderful and addictive course. I learned a lot of things from you. Your expertise and the way of teaching are quite fantastic and I will surely miss them. Thank you for giving some of your wisdom to me.

Thank you for your passion and dedication to teaching what many people find to be some of the most challenging concepts in the accounting curriculum. Your positive attitude and in-depth explanations for difficult concepts greatly enriches every class you teach.

Just at dinner last night, a group of us first years were reflecting on the semester. We came to the conclusion that you’re one of the hardest working professors and your passion for teaching shows every single day. From staying up late to grade last minute assignments to taking the time to make us breakfast for our final, you really have made an impact. So with that being said, thank you from the first year class!

Thank you so so much for your passion for our profession and educating. I feel so lucky to have a professor like you, finding the just-right-challenge between pushing us to be better, encouraging us, and inspiring us as future clinicians. You are appreciated, and hope you feel encouraged as an educator and proud of the work you’ve done with our class. Thank you so much!!

Thanks for being a great adviser the last few years! Also, thanks for the constant supply of candy :). You were/are someone I can always come to with questions, problems, etc. and I really appreciate that.

I cannot thank you enough for all that you have done for our class. In the midst of this heart breaking time, you still placed our learning and experience as a top priority, and I am amazed at your ability to do so. We love your dedication and passion for this profession, and appreciate you so much! We have missed seeing you daily, but you have been in our constant thoughts and prayers.

Thank you so much for being a professor that cares for each individual student. I have been so blessed by your encouragement and willingness to help me fully grasp course material. You have made my transition into a professional program easier and I have never felt so supported by a professor. I look forward to having you as a professor again next semester!

Thank you for loving your job so much! You are an amazing teacher.

Thanks for everything you taught me last year as well as your support. You have always gone above and beyond the expectations of a ‘great’ professor. You are truly a treasure at Mizzou! Thanks for everything and best wishes for all your future endeavors.

There are two types of teachers, one who teach their students what the syllabus dictates and the other, who go beyond the coursework to teach their students things that life dictates. Thank you for being the latter. I have learned from your silence more than your talk since you are one of the few who talk less, and say more.

It is apparent that you put the student first and work to place us in positions to succeed. I also wanted to thank you for pushing me to engage my discomfort and reach for a more well-rounded view of the world of education. There is more work to do but you have opened a window. Thank you!

My biggest takeaway, apart from all the social theories, is that I lacked confidence while presenting. You have been so supportive and encouraging throughout the term, that for the first time in my life, I actually thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and I have gotten over my fear of presenting (hurray!).

Thank you for your time, thorough feedback and follow-up. I am glad that this course was one of my first courses in the program. I look up to you as a role model. I hope that I will have the opportunity to work with you in the future.

There is not enough I can say about how much I thank heaven that you are my adviser and mentor. Your patience and understanding are unsurpassed. That you truly care about our work/life balance, but yet set the bar for rigor in learning, has influenced me as I lead others and will positively influence the nursing profession as your advisees influence others. I am SO thankful I chose Mizzou for many reasons, with a main one that of the honor of getting to know you. You are my hero.

You continue to impress me more and more with your knowledge, creativity and engaging coursework. Some people brighten up the room with their presence–you are one of them and even manage to do so even from a distance. Thank you for your guidance, wisdom and compassion as I continue this doctoral journey; you aren’t just helping me learn, you make me a better person.

It is with transcending gratitude that I tell you what an inspiration you have been throughout my experience, thus far, here at Mizzou. Your knowledge, understanding and genuine “care” for others is illuminated in everything you do! I’m grateful to know you.

Thank you for you dedication, organization, enthusiasm and hard work. You are an inspiring professor.

Thanks for making me brave. We had 5 white-knuckle, terrifying assignments that turned out to be not so scary in the end. Thanks for pushing the limits and reassuring me that I could get through them. I learned so many new things!
