Jerry Springer 's "Ringmaster" creates an understandable audience anticipation that the film will be largely about Springer and his controversial talk show. But Springer appears more as a byproduct. He stands to one side, looking morose and regretful, while human flotsam occupies his stage. He's like a sorrowful deer caught in the headlights, except for a big speech where he lectures sternly that the poor have just as much right as the rich to be humiliated in public.
The difference is that the rich have humiliation thrust upon them, while the poor have to angle for it. The movie's plot is mostly about would-be guests who apply to the Springer show, hoping for free airline tickets. The movie wisely focuses on them, and that's the key to its occasional charm: It doesn't make the mistake of thinking we're much interested in Springer himself. What we want to know--what kind of people would want to be guests on that show? Was ever the word "guest" more cruelly misused than as a description of the victims of the Springer program? And yet that's how they see themselves. "This is the first family vacation we're ever had," says Connie Zorzak ( Molly Hagan ), the heroine of the film, who volunteers her daughter Angel ( Jaime Pressly ) and husband Rusty ( Michael Dudikoff ) for the Springer show after catching them in bed with each other. As a fillip, she throws in Angel's boyfriend Willie (Ashley Holbrook), who she (Connie) has been having sex with--as revenge against Angel, of course.
They all live in a trailer park near Miami. Connie and Angel are employed, Connie as the proprietor of a snack wagon that never seems to have any customers, Angel as a maid in a motel where the male customers all seem to know that, for a good time, they should see Angel. Rusty sits at home drinking beer and watching the dog races on TV. Occasionally he has to deal with Connie calling him up and telling him about openings for forklift operators. All three actors are effective at finding the note that passes caricature, but stops short of parody; I was reminded of scenes from "The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom." They're accepted for the segment, "You Did WHAT With Your Stepdaddy?" Meanwhile, we meet other guests. Starletta ( Wendy Raquel Robinson ) has a straying boyfriend named Demond ( Michael Jai White) who has cheated on her with two other women: Vonda (Tangie Ambrose) and Leshawnette (Nicki Micheaux). They all qualify for the show ("My Traitor Girlfriends"), where inevitably some of these cheerful cheaters find new possibilities backstage.
You'd expect this material to be dealt with in a careless and seamy way, but "Ringmaster" is a better movie than I expected. The guests come across as pathetic but spirited, and are acted with some sympathy. And the show tapings look like outtakes from TV, including tongue-kissing lesbians and black-shirted security guards to pull apart hair-pulling guests. (The pre-show announcements have a charm of their own: "The No. 1 rule is: No weapons whatsoever. Can you be arrested for a crime you commit on 'The Jerry Springer Show'? The answer is, yes.") Hagan brings poignancy to Connie, the trailer-park mom. She was pregnant at 15, we learn, and blames herself for the shabby life she has created for her daughter. When she finds Angel in bed with her husband (her daughter's stepfather), she sees it less as a betrayal than as an opportunity for free airfare. Like Robert De Niro in " Taxi Driver ," she practices her lines in the mirror: "You did what with my husband?" Pressly has a good scene as she tries to cash her paycheck and is told she has the wrong ID; her lifestyle includes weekly challenges to accepted banking practices.
Jon Bernstein's screenplay has some nice lines ("I like to think of us as the Judds without the talent"). Jerry Springer probably supplied most of his own dialogue ("This is a slice of American life, and if you don't like it, bite something else"). At times he looks like he's trying to send us a telepathic appeal for forgiveness. True story. One day Springer encountered a Chicago news anchor. Out of a blue sky, he volunteered, "I know I'm going to go to hell for doing this show." He should learn to forgive himself (a current Oprah topic). Somebody must be watching. I watch sometimes. And so do you.

Considerably better than most of Dileep's recent crass formulaic movies, but ultimately ends up as an average fair and its important that you leave your brains out elsewhere while watching this movie. Rafi of Rafi-Mercartin duo doesn't show much promise as an independent director as he also resorts too much on double meaning jokes. Dileep continues to be his usual self. Kalabhavan Shajon and Aju Varghese were funny in parts. Honey Rose was okay and Keerthi has nothing much to do.
And I personally feel a portion of this movie was exclusively dedicated to carry out Dileep's personal vendetta against his soon to be divorced wife Manju Warrier by portraying Honey Rose as an ungrateful actress who has forgotten her…

Prince (Dileep) loves animals very much as he has grown up among animals. His father is a trainer of animals in circus. The dog Diana is very much attached to Prince.
Diana gets chance to act in movies. Prince goes with her with the hope of getting some chance to act, but in vain.
The heroine in the film too has the name Diana (Honey Rose), which creates confusion whether who is being called (heroine or dog) in the shooting set.
This results in many humorous situations; Prince and the heroine always quarrels and the similar name of the dog and the heroine leads to utter confusion.
Keerthy Suresh also does a prominent role in the movie. Her character is visually challenged and is guided and protected by her pet dog Toby.
‘Ring Master’ is written and directed by Rafi of Rafi-Mecartin team. Saikumar, Shajon, Suraj Venjarammoodu, Vijayaraghavan, Abu Salim, Guinness Pakru, Aju Varghese, Shiju, Mohan Jose, Basil, and Renjini also include the cast list.
Shaji wields the camera. Gopi Sunder composes music for the songs penned by Rajeev Nair, Harinarayanan, and Nadirsha. The movie is produced by Vysakh Rajan under the banner of Vysakh Release.

Arun and the three youngsters have done a decent job as actors, the dialogues and tweaked screenplay at certain points overshadow their effort. Had the maker chosen to make a crisp 90-minute film like the original, this may have worked better.

VULTURES 2 opens with a staggering wall of sound that resembles THX’s Deep Note . Dr. Dre ’s 2001 famously opens with the same sonic logo, using it to establish the cinematic scope of the album’s slick, muscular G-funk. “Everything you hear is planned. It’s a movie,” Dre told The New York Times in 1999. With its exquisitely arranged melodies and drums, 2001 was immersive and detailed, like cruising through Southern California in the Discovery One . Listening to VULTURES 2 , the sequel to Ye and Ty Dolla $ign ’s surprisingly coherent collab from February, is more akin to being imprisoned inside an Akademiks livestream. There is little noteworthy or thrilling happening in this strange, inert environment, despite the constant provocations and snippets of intrigue.
This isn’t surprising. Ye, who once said he got his “entire sound” from “ Xxplosive ,” hasn’t really focused on music for the past eight years. Though his army of collaborators occasionally uses his extensive resources to stitch together a distinct beat or galvanize say, Playboi Carti or Jay Electronica , to black out, Ye mostly uses songs to soundtrack his live events, be they fashion shows or listening sessions at stadiums. From the Madison Square Garden release party for The Life of Pablo to his Sunday Service series to the Donda shows, he’s increasingly oriented his work toward eyes rather than ears, a mode that favors diehard believers over discerning listeners. At this point, Ye is more of a ceremonial figurehead than a conductor.
VULTURES 2 acknowledges this diminished role, making it a sequel in the most modern Hollywood of ways. Were you partial to that swaggering Carti verse on “Carnival?” He’s back for “Field Trip.” Speaking of “Carnival,” those lurching stadium chants were pretty neat, yeah? “Fried” has you covered. Were you fond of the “Whip My Hair”-core kids bop of North West on “Talking?” She returns on “Bomb,” repeating Japanese greetings ad nauseam alongside her sister Chicago West. Do you miss the “old Kanye?” Peep the “Good Life” reference on “Time Moving Slow.” These two aren’t using songs to express themselves or explore sounds and themes; they’re more keen to prove they’re impervious to shame. “They tried to hit me with the cyanide/Nice try,” Ye taunts on “Slide.”
In its best moments, VULTURES 1 treated Ye like a lame duck. Although Ye’s rapping on VULTURES 1 was notably smoother compared to the poopy-di-scoop of his post- Pablo output, the songs seemed to consciously work around Ye’s deflated performances and edgelord antics, often keeping him— Cash Money-style —away from a given track’s first and last verses. Considering that, a generous reading is that VULTURES 1 was a Ty Dolla album with a Ye-sized budget. But in practice, the Hitler-loving provocateur remained in the middle, ringmaster to the cursed circus.
The exhausting show continues on VULTURES 2 , which seems to exist because the powers that be just don’t want Ye to win, man. This is the whole album’s shtick: I survived cancel culture, a conspiracy that Ye’s noxious, neverending presence in the spotlight disproves. The sneering sentiment underscores the album’s steadfast lack of purpose. Though the beats are loud and lush, and though guests like Lil Wayne , Lil Durk , and Don Toliver swing through with energized performances, there’s no vision or direction connecting all the moving parts. “Dead” clumsily swings from pounding drums and an energized Future verse to stilted and stupid Ye lines. “Twenty the new 30, but you’re still 30,” the 47-year-old raps. “River” opens with spry and funny Young Thug flexes (“Like a dirty butt, I’m having cheese”) then devolves into vague prayers from Ye. “Too much hate and not enough love/Free Larry, free Young Thug,” he croons mechanically.
Elsewhere, he squanders the anguished R&B loop of the “Marvins Room” ripoff “530,” stumbling through the last and obviously unfinished verse with, you guessed it, some scoop-diddy-whoops. It feels telling that the misogynistic insults are the clearest lines: “Don’t sa-fah-na-da, I’m new with this/Da-da, na-dana, goi’ through with this/Pa-da-la, fa-na-dan, don’t think this/Can’t fa-fa-na-da for you fake bitch/You don’t really love Ye, go listen to Drake , bitch.” Male grievance and virility are the only things holding Ye and Ty Dolla’s partnership together.
VULTURES 2 is even shoddier in construction and execution than its predecessor. This is frat rap for bitter baby daddies and aspiring trad husbands—kings, I guess. Andrew Tate probably loves it. I’m not sure how anybody else could. No adrenaline, dopamine, or blood courses through this carrion of an album. Despite the frequent overtures to grandeur, spectacle, and machismo, these songs are limp and flabby. No one seems to have wondered why someone would want to play these songs beyond the names attached to them, or attempted to make them more than sonic merch. Ye must really miss the Gap.

As Democrats Gather in Chicago, These Audiobooks Offer Context
Political histories, a courtroom drama and the memoir of a daughter of the South Side illuminate the legacy of the 1968 Democratic National Convention.

By Alexander Nazaryan
Alexander Nazaryan writes about politics, culture and science.
Never one to tread lightly, Norman Mailer once declared Chicago “the great American city.” It did not strive, he argued, to New York’s global status, yet it managed to outshine “the dull diamonds in the smog of Eastern Megalopolis,” as Mailer derided Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
The Brooklyn-bred literary pugilist made this pronouncement in 1968 as he blew into town for that summer’s Democratic National Convention. Mailer had just been in Miami, where the Republicans trotted out a baby elephant and nominated Richard M. Nixon without much drama.
In Chicago, the circus was of a darker variety. Having drawn the nation into a full-scale war in Vietnam, Lyndon B. Johnson announced in March that he would not seek re-election . Less than a week later, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was killed. Then, in early June, Robert F. Kennedy, the Democratic front-runner, was assassinated in Los Angeles . Just a few weeks later, the Democrats headed to Chicago while the country convulsed with grief and rage. Antiwar activists planned a show of force in the city’s streets, only to be met by an unrestrained Chicago Police Department. The ensuing violence played out on millions of television screens, stunning an already battered nation.
This year, the Democrats are gathering in Chicago again, for the second time since 1968. Chicago has changed , and so has America. Yet there are haunting parallels — ideological divisions, antiwar protests, a recent assassination attempt. These audiobooks can help you make sense of the current moment.
By Mike Royko. Read by Charles Constant.
The 1968 Democratic convention was supposed to showcase how Mayor Richard J. Daley had turned Chicago into “the city that works.” But as the event devolved into what would later be described as a sanctioned “ police riot ,” that image shattered on national television. Royko, a columnist for The Chicago Daily News, describes with forensic precision how Daley brought this city of “ethnic states” to heel, and just how cruel and superficial that transformation was — the doomed South Side housing projects , the halfhearted efforts at police reform that the mayor at least partly undid with his own “ shoot to kill ” order during the unrest after King’s killing. As a narrator, Constant plays it straight, without hamming up the accents.
